A Rave For Another New Show..."Ripper Street"....

This one is carried on BBC America over here, and based on the promos, I'd really been looking forward to it...
We watched the first episode last night, and it did not disappoint...
The premise of the show is this:
The year is 1889, the city is London; shortly after The Ripper murders....
There's a new Chief Inspector in the district, and now there are new murders taking place....
The show (at least the first episode)
really captures the gritty feel of the place and time, (as well as the language of the period) and it's
very well cast and well written...
With a new show, one always has to see if they can sustain the quality past the pilot, but the first episode is a real winner....
(Of course Strop won't like it because there's an American cast in a major role, but one can't have everything....

)

Oh I object!! my determination not to watch "Elementary" has nothing to do with the participation of an American, nor an Asian-American. It's more to do with the wanton disregard of the concepts of the original stories.

Oh, and what is the problem you have about the "arts" forum Jim?

Well, what can I say .....
I have the same sort of casual, hit or miss attitude towards which forum I start a thread in that you have towards spelling words correctly in your subject lines....

Just watched four episodes, not bad at all.
The use of slightly archaic language is well done, the plots, (apart from episode 2,) are intriguing, the tarts tasty.
Looking forward to more.
(Mathew Whatisface s a bit weak as the lead man.)
Still not watched Broadchurch though.

Good gawd, we AMERICANS have all watched Broadchurch now (and it was great). Hop to it boy, do you want to be thought of as uncivilised?

He's a cricket fan...
Obviously that's not a consideration...

I never watched it, never even heard of it.

We watched the first episode of Season 2 last night...
Looks like another winner...
(Though they've gotten a little sloppy with
The Period dialogue; at one point Captain Jackson uses the phrase, "knock yourself out" to sarcastically tell another doctor to pursue his theory; I doubt that "knock yourself out" was an expression commonly used in Late Victorian England, even by Americans...

)

Gee, the second season just started over here; I didn't even know it had been cancelled...
But I'm certainly glad to see that it's been picked up...
That's one of the nice things about the age we live in; there are now so many different venues for delivering artistic product that a quality dramatic series like this can get a second life even if it fails to attract boffo ratings...

I was pleasantly surprised to find that there is season four for this show; (apparently there will also be a season five) the last episode of season three really looked like a series ender:
Ripper Street: Season Four Finally Coming to BBC America
Ripper Street is headed back to the States. BBC America recently announced that season four of the UK drama will premiere this summer.
Set in Victorian London, the historical drama stars Matthew Macfadyen, Jerome Flynn, and Adam Rothenberg. The series moved to Amazon in the UK when the BBC cancelled it after two seasons.
Earlier, Amazon announced that season five would be the last season for Ripper Street. Season four will premiere on BBC America on July 28th.

I'm sure it's not the kind of thing you would enjoy oldr...
It doesn't star a family of in-bred hillbillies...
