There was an excellent 9-page article on the history of the Bruichladdich distillery ("Spirit Guide: reinventing a great distillery") in the Feb.11-18 issue of The New Yorker. (Don't know if it's available online without subscribing but if you can find it, it's well worth a read.)

A sure way to get me to look at this thread. :fu :nana

I always liked the taste of whisky, but after a while, it was just a means to an end, which was getting drunk. :shrug

I like unsweetened Iced Tea with a twist of lemon now.

It would be nice to drink like a "normal" person. Enjoy a glass or two of "whatever" but I am not wired that way. Start me down the path and I am not stopping until I get totally drunk and go to sleep. My only saving grace (and my sponsor is amazed at) is that when I do relapse, it's for one day (or less), I drink my pint (or whatever) and don't go out drinking for days/weeks/months at a time (we call it "going on a run").

But to all, enjoy a good whisky, I salute you all and I'll raise my glass of liced tea and have a toast with you.

I particularly liked the bit where he suggested that Laphroaig would be most appreciated by pregnant women....

I wonder if he got any comments about that.... 8-)

Have you tried Japanese whisky Gob? This one seems to get good reviews - but not available here sadly (Bloemfontein is a cultural desert)

The legendary Hibiki represents true harmony.
The enigma of perfection, the paragon of the art of whisky and the art of Japan's artisans.
Hibiki, meaning resonance in Japanese, speaks to the soul and emotions of the most discerning whisky lover. Hibiki resonates from nature, and all the subtleties found from the twenty four seasons of the old Japanese lunar calendar. Numerous types of pure single malt whiskies ageing in various types of casks, including Mizunara, a very rare Japanese oak, all combine to create a full orchestra of flavors and aromas.
Seductive, blossoming and enigmatic, Hibiki celebrates the unrivaled art of blending, fine craftsmanship, and sense of luxury of the House.
Bearing the seal of the House of Suntory, this majestic blend is its rightful paragon

Nope, I've had their Sake' many times, but not tried their whisky. I wouldn't mind a go though.

I sent my aged aunt in England a sample pack of Japanese whisky (on-line purchase from UK store) for Christmas. I haven't had a report back yet. . .

I don't recommend trying Korean whisky.
K&JB presents high class Scotch Blue. Scotch Blue, created to be a first-class Scotch by a master blender, has become a favorite not only of Korean high society members but also of the masses. Its rich aroma and soft taste has earned the title as the number 1 selling Scotch in Korea.

There are three Scotch Blue products; Scotch Blue Special (SBS) 17 years, Scotch Blue (SB) 21 years, and Scotch Blue International (SBI), which is a blend of 21 years and 6 years Scotch. SBI is great for whiskey drinkers, and SBS is good for people who prefer straight shots. All Scotch Blue products are carefully removed of smoke smell that ordinary whiskey products come to contain at the producing process to give extraordinary aroma and taste.

Another unique feature Scotch Blue products present is their DNA system employed to prevent illegal imitation. All genuine SB products are with DNA label, whose blue letters turn red when wet with the special discerning liquid but return to blue when wet with water. When the label is removed from the bottle, it automatically stops functioning as a DNA discerning system, as it is designed not for reuse. Moreover, each bottle of SB products has its own UV printed serial number.

K&JB has signed an agreement with Lottechilsung Co., Ltd, the manufacturer of Scotch Blue, and become the only authorized distributor of SB products in the Philippines. To serve buyers right, they always ensure themselves to have enough stocks of Scotch. The company put importance in partnership with buyers, so they give away soda or juice products of Lottechilsung to bulky buyers.

There's not much one can add to that (kindly).
