Judging by those with the clap, I've no need to watch it. Besides, the O in Tosh.O stands for 'orifice'.

God that's shite.

Couldn't they afford a comedian?

(Ps. The fact that he used American soccer match to illustrate it may be the reason he's not enjoying it.)

By the tine I factored in the visit to the MD and the Rx for penicillin, that was ONE EXPENSIVE date.

A large part of the reason that football has not caught on in the US is the number of 'comedians' who do skits like this. The American people, of course, do whatever their TV tells them to do and this serves to perpetuate the myths. This in turn leads to even more 'comedians' jumping on the bandwagon.

If only Yanks were able to think for themselves... what a different world this might be.

My seven-year old Grandson finds soccer BORING and plays BASEBALL.

The over-protective parents who inhabit the upper- crusty burg of Pleasanton find soccer "safe", I find it dull.

Pleasanton, CA is a BIG soccer town, for that reason.

Danny loves Baseball and so do I........so there! :nana

No, it's a boring sport. It's been given ample chance to "catch on" here in the states. People don't like it.

We don't give two chitz for cricket, either and spend our time and money on MLB! :ok

GOD BLESS AMERICA!

Yes MLB... I may have mentioned before that where I come from it's called rounders and is played by schoolgirls.

So there! :nana

They can even catch a ball without needing oversized, comedy gloves!

And they play in gym kit as opposed to pyjamas...

It is impossible for football (foot + ball) to "catch on" in the USA at the true professional level for several reasons:

1. It is continuous action. TV moguls do not appreciate a game that doesn't stop and start at their beck and call.
1b. US couch potatoes hate not being able to wander to the 'fridge, go pee, visit the local library between "plays"
2. US professional sportspersons do not enjoy having to be athletic for longer than 45 seconds without a huge break in play (see "golf" also)
3. US citizens cannot understand the concept of two teams drawing a game (unless Cleveland Browns play Kansas City; then it's OK)
4. US citizens cannot understand that any score not in double digits does not mean failure
5. US citizens cannot understand the concept of football where 1 goal equals 1 goal. It obviously should be 1 = 6.
6. US citizens attention span is about three seconds; hence the popularity of American style football and baseball
7. Real football games are over too quickly; US men worry they might have to do household chores in the extra time. That's why the US has so many soccer "moms" who live in hope that their own male children might grow up displaying good taste (futile though that is).

One could go on. And one probably will. The fact is that the only thing more tedious than real football (foot + ball) is listening to the sub-text of US voices ("We're useless at this game so we'll pretend it doesn't matter"). Oh, and women's real football* - that is indeed tedious

Meade

*or any sporting activity with the exception of tennis (great outfits) and oddly enough golf - although there are some real chunks out there wearing slacks there are also some major babes such as Paula Creamer in cute little skirts.

Like the fellow said, soccer's a great sport for little kids...

You can master the sport at the age of 7...

To be honest, that's a little extreme....

You can pretty much master the sport at the age of three.... 8-)

You'll have to forgive Gen'l Meade....

He grew up in Cleveland, home of the Cleveland Indians, and the Cleveland Browns.... The only pro football team named after a coach...(That was a bit arrogant...Paul Brown naming the team after himself...Christ, Vince Lombardi never went that far...)

Obviously, having had to deal with the concept of "epic fail" with all of his sports teams over the years has colored his judgement....

DUring 90% of any soccer game, there is NO POSSIBILITY that anything could happen (excepting only an injury) that would affect the outcome of the game.

It is undoubtedly true that the skills required to pass the ball around, dribble and so on are borderline superhuman,

However.

Any sport that minimizes and renders largely irrelevant (or impermissible) the use of one's hands is ridiculous ab initio.

Are you honestly saying baseball, especially little. little league style, is dangerous? More dangerous than soccer where one's legs can be swept put from under him/her. I don't see it. Granted, at higher levels the ball is pitched at high speeds, but then I've seen many more injuries (ACL MCL tears) in soccer than in baseball. Somehow I don't see safety as a draw for soccer over baseball.

As for boredom to each his own.

It can be, that's why they wear batting helmets.

Amazing. You really ought to look up the word 'tactics' Dave. Better still, sit down and watch a football game with somebody who actually understands it and let them show you what is actually happening during your mythical 90%. You appear to have started from a position of complete ignorance and somehow managed to go backwards from there.

Also, I would suggest that the use of Latin phrases as an attempt to try and prove that you are intelligent should be confined to sentences that are not complete and utter drivel...
