Marie Stopes, next for the chop?

Post by RayThom »

Bye, Felicia.
As you know I'm really slow on the uptake, but hasn't Felicia been supplanted by "Karen?"

I hope I'm not losing it, at least not yet.

I did some research for you, Ray. "Bye Felicia" is a dismissive term and "Karen" is used to describe an entitled demanding white woman who wears a bolo tie.

Husband so far wants no part of it. We shall see.
Smart man!

If I were a bit younger, I would seriously consider it.
Why do you have to be younger? Honestly, you sound like my husband. As an aged retiree, if your health allows, you have the time and wisdom to work with them.
I can't argue with the logic, but I do think the older one gets, the less long term commitments one should make. Also, parenting is an exhausting vocation, so one must be honest about their health and stamina. It is worthy of consideration, though.

So Gob, I guess it's safe to say you would not want to be a foster parent?

I've just managed to get my kid raised to the point where she is self sufficient, living independently, and happy. I'm not doing it again for anyone else's kid!!

I understand; I recall having a number of cases where one or both grandparents refused to take custody of a grandchild (when the parent(s) was (were) unfit. A lot of people I worked with criticized that, but I think it would be far worse to place a child with someone who really doesn't want to care for them. Just as some people should never be parents, others might have been fine parents but should never be foster parents. You just have to be honest with yourself.

Grandparent who do step up, though, are unsung heroes.

I agree; indeed anyone who chooses to step up fits that description.

I want wall to wall toddlers, what a trip!

Apparently one can offer up taking emergency fosters for 24 hours while a long term placement is found. This might satisfy my husband who wants to travel on a minutes whim.

Just great. I'll be an emergency foster care placement but I might not be home when you call. Sounds like CPS could really use you...

If I find a skunk that needs fostering I will call you.
