The book of Judith is part of the Roman Catholic canon. And while I was In Florence in the fall I noticed that she was a favored subject of a number of Renaissance artists.

Judith was kind of an avatar for the House of Medici, so you'll naturally see a lot of Judith art from Renaissance/Baroque Florence.
