My Five-Year Plan

Post by liberty »

Everyone should have an exit plan. Since I don't expect to live much more than five years, I figure it's about time to start executing mine.

Part of it is going to be this thread. I'm going to try to set straight all the misconceptions about me. That includes my beliefs and opinions.

The problem is, I only write when I'm in the mood, and my moods change a lot. So don't expect this to be consistent. I'll probably jump all over the place, that's just the way it is.

On another forum today, we were talking about how people treat each other. That caused me to think about SHs I have known. One of the significant ones didn’t even involve me:

I once picked up a hitchhiker. He had on a pair of blue jeans and a leather jacket, and the weather was cold. He told me he'd gotten a ride from a guy in a new pickup truck who asked him to put his backpack, which included his sleeping bag and clothes in the back. When he got out, the guy sped off and stole his gear. What a total piece of human refuse. He got pleasure from knowing that the guy was shivering in the cold. People like that, there should be a special place in hell for them.

Anyway, I gave the hitchhiker some thermal underwear and arctic socks, then took him to a local truck stop. That was about all I could do for him. Hope he made it home. And I hope the guy in the truck ended up with four flat tires; he deserved it. But you know, in the real world, that kind of justice rarely happens.
Soon, I’ll post my farewell message. The end is starting to get close. There are many misconceptions about me, and before I go, to live with my ancestors on the steppes, I want to set the record straight.

It’s true that the marchers, and the new “King March,” are trying to emphasize that the U.S. does not have a king. That’s valid. But Donald Trump is no king, especially since kings inherit their position, and he was elected. He didn’t inherit a throne. Trump is not a dictator either; he gets away with what he wants because Congress allows it. When they choose not to, he won’t be able to.

As for the marchers themselves, they don’t really mean much. All it shows is that these people oppose Donald Trump. But they’re the same people who voted against him in the election, and the same ones who will vote against his successor.

So, what does it really mean? It’s a show. It won’t change anything, unless it inspires more Democratic voters to turn out in the next election. But I don’t see how that would happen. About all the Democratic voters that could vote against Trump did. The only difference would be that there will be new voters who have just come of age since the last election. But that’s true for the Republicans as well.

Here’s a little thought you might think about, even though I doubt it: the reason that Donald Trump was elected is because he generally keeps his promises. He does what he says he’ll do, or at least he creates that impression. That’s unique in U.S. presidential prospects. As a matter of fact, they got so bad that it became a joke. No one expected a candidate to keep his promises. There was a country song written that emphasized that point when it used the words: “When the man walks through the White House doors and does what he says he’ll do, we’ll all be drinking that free bubble-up and eating that rainbow stew.” If Democrats would do the same thing, they’d be more likely to be elected.

Of course, I could be wrong, but I don’t think so. Still, I never let that bother me. I learned a long time ago that mistakes are valuable, as long as they’re not the irreparable kind. Minor mistakes, like being wrong on the form? No big deal. They’re learning opportunities, not just about myself, but about how others react.
