Maybe he started to believe his fanboys and thought he was immortal... ;)
Why is it that when Miley Cyrus gets naked and licks a hammer it's 'art' and 'edgy' but when I do it I'm 'drunk' and 'banned from the hardware store'?

While his form of pancreatic cancer is somewhat indolent there is absolutely no way to know if having surgery 6 mos earlier would have had any effect on the outcome. It is equally possible that it had already metastisized by then and he would have seen zero increase in life span.

rubato, I'm going to trust what I've read in the official materials about Jobs's cancer and the statements from oncologists familiar with the type and stage of his cancer over your wisdom on the subject. You are a scientist but not an oncologist - it is a highly specialized field of medicine, I'm sure you'll agree.

I'm sure you'll respect my decision to agree to disagree with you.

Jobs was stupid to refuse the standard protocol of care for a highly treatable form of cancer in favor of macrobiotics because he was afraid of surgery - especially because he could afford to go to the best surgeon in the known Universe without concern for insurance or cost. He very likely robbed himself of the chance to hold his grandchildren. That's my opinion and nothing you are saying is going to change it.
For me, it is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring.

Gotta agree with BSG. Everything I have read says that his form of cancer was highly treatable and while he would not have been guaranteed a positive result from using modern medicine, it is highly likely that he would have been cured.

Jobs was a fool to delay treatment and it made his chances a lot worse but I have seen nothing from an oncologist who said that he would definitely have been cured had he not delayed treatment.

Well obviously. No oncologist would ever say "definitely".

Then I don't think I understand your post when you said

It seems you are either saying that he wasn't guaranteed a cure, which is blatantly obvious, or you are saying that he wouldn't have been cured, which is plain wrong. or is there some other meaning in the text?

The church of lengthy and tiresome self-justification has many adherents, I see.
