Who wants to live forever?
Re: Who wants to live forever?
I never think about it.
Death is inevitable...
Death is inevitable...
Sometimes it seems as though one has to cross the line just to figger out where it is

Sorry to hear about that Miles. Again, my thoughts are with you and your family.
Re: Who wants to live forever?
Condolences, Miles. Though it sounds like a good, long life was lived by this lady.
For me, it is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring.

Re: Who wants to live forever?
Condolences from us too Miles.
As for the OP; I think the problem is the idea of living "for ever".
Is there anyone here who would not like to have the quality of life they have now for say, another 50 years? Hmmmm?
How about a hundred in that case?
Tempting?

Re: Who wants to live forever?
Very tempting. If I was 40 and someone said to me "Take this pill, and you will wake up 30 and could relive the last 10 years again", I can't see why I wouldn't. And then, after 10 years ... maybe another ...
If a man speaks in the forest and there are no women around to hear is he still wrong?
Re: Who wants to live forever?
You'd want to keep living that age where you're forced to confront the fact that you're not young anymore and don't get kids these days and getting very close to yelling at them to get off your lawn.
Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.
Re: Who wants to live forever?
Yup, if all existence stopped with you, and you could enjoy this moment forever...
that's different.
that's different.

Re: Who wants to live forever?
Living forever has some very distinct disavantages. The obvious one is out living your friends. It would be like being in a combat situation where your stuck with the guys you trained with but your likely hood of making new friends is nill. Watching friends and family die is very difficult and survivours guilt can be devestating. No thanks I will take whatever hand nature deals me.
I expect to go straight to hell...........at least I won't have to spend time making new friends.
Re: Who wants to live forever?
that's the point you'd have to go through that realization again and again.thestoat wrote:I'm already at the stage, but I wouldn't prefer to dieCrackpot wrote:You'd want to keep living that age where you're forced to confront the fact that you're not young anymore and don't get kids these days and getting very close to yelling at them to get off your lawn.![]()

Not exactly. I think people might use this new medicine to live longer, but not forever.
Ever seen, the movie 'Groundhog Day'?
Re: Who wants to live forever?
I'd like to live a long time just to see how it all turns out. And spend more time with my sweetie.

Re: Who wants to live forever?
That is how it might start. But the fact that people are currently living a little longer each year is causing worries on out overcrowded planet ... I think just a little extra life for millions will have a big impact ... and I suspect many would want more than just a year or two ...loCAtek wrote:Not exactly. Re: Who wants to live forever?
Well, it's not like all could afford it...
Besides, it's not the death rate that is the problem, but the birth rate. You can't even afford contraception in some countries.

Re: Who wants to live forever?
Very true, though I suspect were it to become widely available, enough would be able to afford it to cause problems, and like anything, as such a drug gains acceptance, its price drops. Hell - that is the sort of thing people would go into debt for.loCAtek wrote:Well, it's not like all could afford it...
Not true. Both are the problem.loCAtek wrote:Besides, it's not the death rate that is the problem, but the birth rate

Re: Who wants to live forever?
The irony of that could well be that your "sweetie" may die first in which case you would be left alone and lonely.rubato wrote:I'd like to live a long time just to see how it all turns out. And spend more time with my sweetie.

Your collective inability to acknowledge this obvious truth makes you all look like fools.
