Yankee Stadium was never designed for football! It was designed so there would be a breeze to cool spectators, because it was designed solely for baseball.

Shea was an all-around dump, just another concrete donut that did nothing well.

I was only at the new Meadowlands stadium once, but it was in the fall so I really can't evaluate it. I willl say, though, that it's a horrible choice for the Superbowl in 2014.
Weather wise, perhaps (although winter football SHOULD be in the snow). In terms of a venue, I really liked MetLife when I was there for Springsteen. It was large, but not overwhelming, and I thought it seemed like a great place to watch football (understanding, of course, that Gillette SUX).

What will they do with Candlestick now? What can they do, if they can't renovate it? :shrug

I hope we have about a foot of snow that day. The ultimate game in the ultimate weather. The way football was meaant to be played.

But then again, I think all Super bowls should be played in Green Bay.

Thirded. Every team stadium should get to host the SB in rotation. The heck with all this "it must be sunny" whining

No...the Super Bowl should NEVER be played in a dome! It should ALWAYS be outside! Soldier Field, Lambeau, the Meadowlands, Foxboro, Cleveland, Buffalo, LP Field in Tennessee...no more arena football!

While I ove winter football, and have sat in blizzards watching games, the super bowl is only a single game (another pet peeve of mine) and I'd hate to have the weather determine the outcome. As we have teams that play in the warm areas or domed stadiums, I think that the weather could have too great an effect (not that the best team always wins, but this is another variable that shouldn't be a part of the game). I'd be happy to let it be anywhere if we have a 3 game series (once at each team's stadium and the third in a neutral site, if needed).

As for the Meadowlands, the traffic tieups alone are enough to say there shouldn't be a superbowl there (and the roads won't be any better by 2014).

I would guess that's the same for any area hosting the Super Bowl, why should we be any different. After all, it's only one day and you shouldn't be driving that day anyway, you should be home watching the Super Bowl. It's being American don'cha know. :ok

I like the rotation idea, but it should be to each arena regardless of dome or no dome (although I prefer no dome). It's fair and gives each teams city a chance to host. Of course cities should be able to decline, in which case it goes to the next in line.

Don't know if I like a 3 game series. I have to think about that. :shrug

Well oldr, there are many stadiums which can be reached by walking from the downtown areas (the ravens stadium and the superdome in NO, e.g.), others that can be reached by mass transit that does not clog the streets (like light rail to Candlestick), and some in remote areas whcih do not have a lot of other traffic (liked Lambeau). The Meadowlands can be reached only car or bus, and requires travel through one of the most congested areas in the country, right near one of the three major arteries into NYC (the Lincoln Tunnel), and fairly close to the other two, with many lanes feeding into a couple of narrow ones--access by rail (light or otherwise) or walking is impossible (unless one wants to hike 8 or so miles from the Seacaucus junction station). Pretty poor choice on all accounts.

There is NO light rail to Candlestick, only the on again off again MUNI bus service.

The Oakland Raiders have BART that runs close by.

When the 49'ers relocate to Santa Clara (2014) there will indeed be light rail access.

Your collective inability to acknowledge this obvious truth makes you all look like fools.

Dales--isn't there a muni line (possibly third street) that drops you wihtin walking distance of candlestick? Not right there, but pretty close. I recall taking that once to a game, but it was a while ago so perhaps it was stopped?

BigRR there is a new rail system from NY city to the meadowlands. While I have not used it, I do know quite a few people who have and said it was great. LIRR to Manhattan to the Meadowlands. They say it beats driving. And now htat there are many "catering" setups in the parking lots, one can tailgate also.

Here are the MUNI routes to Candlestick:

You prolly took the Third St. T-Line which connects to the 87 shuttle?

Actually, I recall getting off at stop (not sure which one) and walking, which many people were doing. I don't think it was much more than 1-1.5 miles, not all that far. If there was a shuttle, I didn't notice it (but there were a number of buses running to candlestick).

Shuttles or not, I don't see why the Meadowlands shouldn't host a Stuporbowl. After all people manage to reach the durned place to watch whatever rubbish plays there normally

I'm fine with weather playing a part...arena football teams SHOULD be at a disadvantage when playing real football!

Jarl--do you feel the same about warm weather teams (like a good part f the league)? Again, I have no problem with weather playing a part, but in a single game it could be the determinative factor. I don't think a venue favoring one team over another should be used in a single game championship.

Football should be played outside. Whatever weather happens...happens. If what happens is warm weather...then it does.

Usually the first or second week of February, the NY area gets a few days to a week of nice weather. 50 something, thaw. But of course we have had some good snow storms during that period too. Whatever happens, happens. Didn't the Detroit SuperBowl get wacked with a massive storm some years back where people couldn't get to the stadium? Players will play in whatever the elements. (Giants vs Packers a few years ago comes to mind)
