Well it is a Christian text, so we don't really expect clarity from it.

Well, uh, yeah, since selecting a date to celebrate his birthday couldn't very well have taken place before he was born.loCAtek wrote:Which proves my point, that much lumping took place after Christ.Gob wrote:Flavius Valerius Aurelius Constantinus,

What? Your "point" seems to change with every fucking post.loCAtek wrote: Which proves my point, that much lumping took place after Christ.

She's crocked. What possible "point" could she be making?

So, lo - a body of evidence posted, as requested by you ... and you then just ignore it all? Very sad. Can you not say "Ah yes, lots of evidence there. I was wrong"? Instead of just ignoring it?

Re: The Myth of the Mithra's...
No, I've accept that Christ may not have been born on December 25th, but I don't see how that demonstrates he didn't exist The date of his birth was symbolized but I don't see how that eradicates Christ's existence.thestoat wrote:Oh dear. A body of evidence isn't enough for lo, but a couple of cave paintings might be ... Or maybe if I posted some pics then new evidence would be required. The point is, lo, there is a huge amount of evidence supporting what I have asserted. Instead of just asking for some new pictures, why not just say "oh, ok, you do have a point". It is called "admitting you are wrong".
You need to try to accept that Christ was NOT born on Dec 25 and other religions can lay original claim to a lot of stuff attributed to Christ.
Scooter ... I think the dogma runs deep deep deep ...

1. Where did you accept he was not born on Dec 25th? I must have missed the post, so forgive me for that - please direct me to the post.
2. Where has anyone posted that Christ didn't exist?
(3. Optional - what are you smoking?

Um, stoat I began this thread as an examination of Mithras' birthday; which archeological evidence shows was from a stone, not a virgin; and not on December 25th.thestoat wrote:Oh dear. No pagan god was born exactly on December 25th, as the celebration was the Winter Solstice held at different days of the year's end.
The Romans set the Winter Solstice on December 25th, in regards to pagan festivals; regardless it doesn't naturally occur then. They did this after the time of Christ.
Christ's birthday was brought up only in comparison to Mirtha's birthday. I understand neither were likely born on that day; it was the Romans who put all winter festivals on that day, and the ROMAN Catholic Church continued to accept that. Meaning, pagan usurpation was not the intent of the Church, it was a matter of convenience to equalize all religious rituals to a single day by the Emperor.
Re: The Myth of the Mithra's...
Well, that all goes back to the "You will be A-thei-ssimilated." thread, and the claim of some atheists like Flemming, that the Christ story is fictional, because either Christ did not exist, or was pieced together from other myths, and attributed to a common man.thestoat wrote: 2. Re: The Myth of the Mithra's...
Found this;
Christmas wasn't celebrated by Christians until the 4th century; long after the Romans set that date. It also took a few centuries to catch on as a Church practice.
Eastern churches began to celebrate Christmas after 375 CE.
The church in Jerusalem started in the 7th century.
Ireland started in the 5th century
Austria, England and Switzerland in the 8th
Slavic lands in the 9th and 10th centuries.
You mentioned the bible referring to Christ's birth in the Fall. While it was not a specific date; most early Christians couldn't read, nor even owned bibles. They were precious relics that had to be individually, painstakingly hand-written by monks. Anyone outside of the church, who owned a bible was usually a King or Aristocrat. The average person didn't won a bible until after the invention of the printing press. Also, the first bibles were written in Latin, and as the religion spread, many common Christians, even if they could read, could not read Latin.

Re: The Myth of the Mithra's...
The point is that Christ was NOT born on Dec 25th but his birthday is celebrated on that day because the early christians tried to replace pagan festivals.

Re: The Myth of the Mithra's...
Not for four centuries they didn't. This was after many pagan religions had faded anywayZ.
Also checked many of those festivals...some were held as early as the Fall, some as late as March. So, celebrating Christ's birthday in that tine frame isn't so far fetched; that could be why the Romans included on the seasonal cerebration list.

Can I shoot the control freaks? How much a head?
Re: The Myth of the Mithra's...
What, you're going to head to your local liquor store and shoot up every bottle in the place?
That's the only thing that's trying to control you, and it's obviously doing a great job at it.

I'm not convinced that you are right Scoot. I'll PM you with my thoughts on the matter if I may... I'd like a second opinion.
