Eurasia or not
Eurasia or not
I feel that we should teach in school that Eurasia is one continent. Look at map, it is one landmass. It is more logical to see it as one continent. Just because the ancient Greeks got it wrong doesn’t mean that we should continue to teach it that way.

A continent is one of several major land masses on the earth. There is no standard definition for the number of continents but you will commonly find that the numbers six or seven are used.
Many consider there to be seven continents - Africa, Antarctica, Asia, Australia, Europe, North America, and South America. Most students in the United States are taught that there are seven continents.
European Division of Continents
In Europe and other parts of the world, many students are taught of six continents, where North and South America are combined to form a single continent of America. Thus, these six continents are Africa, America, Antarctica, Asia, Australia, and Europe. I am informed that in France, it is not taught that Antarctica is a continent and thus there are five continents for French students.
Many scientists now refer to six continents, where Europe and Asia are combined (since they're one solid geologic landmass) as Eurasia. Thus, these six continents are Africa, Antarctica, Australia, Eurasia, North America, and South America.Geographers divide the planet into regions, and generally not continents, for ease of study. Various geographers have various definitions of these world regions. This Official Listing of Countries by Region divides the world into eight regions: Asia, the Middle East and North Africa, Europe, North America, Central America and the Caribbean, South America, Africa, and Australia and Oceania.

I expected to be placed in an air force combat position such as security police, forward air control, pararescue or E.O.D. I would have liked dog handler. I had heard about the dog Nemo and was highly impressed. “SFB” is sad I didn’t end up in E.O.D.

I went with "other" because that includes the "who cares?" response. This really is a total non-event making no actual impact on anything at all - rather like my posts

Re: Eurasia or not
But what about the knock on effects Meade? What will happen to the Eurovision, UEFA Champions' League* and European Football Championships?

Why is it that when Miley Cyrus gets naked and licks a hammer it's 'art' and 'edgy' but when I do it I'm 'drunk' and 'banned from the hardware store'?

Hardy-har-har Sean!
Given infinite time, all things must occur - even a victory parade down the High Road.
I imagine the knock on effects will be pretty much what they are for those who regard "The Americas" as one continent - it doesn't seem to have changed the U.S. penchant for calling things "World" championships when even the neighbours can't play. And it doesn't seem to have changed the South American championships in various sports.
Eurovision song contest - that's a good one. It could only be improved by the hideous caterwauling of Far Eastern music.
Fortunately, calling a thing a continent has no actual affect upon anything in and of itself, as is evidenced by the continual disagreement as to how many there are
I always was fond of "Australasia" since it lumped youse guys in with NZ and New Guinea, which seems about right

Not to mention that everybody seems to have forgotten about Oceania...

Now Meade don’t force me to mention Cricket and soccer. May I ask you how many lives would be saved if Soccer( football) disappeared tomorrow? And how about that rampant killer Cricket; how many people just keel over dead from boredom? The game should be outlawed as a public danger. I am not sure it isn’t an Al Queada plot.

Re: Eurasia or not
I went with 'other' on this. It is just a description. Not the thing described. All it does is change slightly the definition of "continent".
And China is buying up most of Europe anyway. Soon everything will be in Chi, Liang and Fen instead of meters, kilos and minutes. You'll pick it up. The Chinese are good with the re-education classes. Once the hegemony is complete they can name it whatever they like. Xiao Zhongguo? (little china)

Should the Americas be joined into one as well?
Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.

Re: Eurasia or not
I think it's alright for North America to be joined with South America, so long as North America gets to be on top...

Bah. There hasn't been a *REAL* continent around since Pangaea broke up.

"Central America" is not an actual continent...What about Central America?
It's just the butt end of North America...

Did someone vote in favor of ignorance?
And, General do I need to mention the dreaded “ C “ word again. Make fun of geography would you?
I realize that there is no internationally accepted standard for what a continent is, but I favor the scientific approach. The scientific approach is logical. What is logical is to see a continent as a separate or almost separate landmass. If the dividing line can be drawn arbitrarily it should not separate continents.
That would be like using the Sahara as a dividing line between Northern and Sub-Saharan Africa and classifying them as two separate continents. They are the sane continent even though the make up of people of the north are quite different. We should, except for God, teach our children to see the world logically. It is illogical to separate Europe and Asia into two continents.
It is Eurasia get used to it.

Obviously you've never lived here!

Every time I hear 'Eurasia" I shall say "gesundheit"
