The Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster
The Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster
Has anyone heard of this church? The basic idea is that someone felt that if the Kansas state could treat intelligent design with the same level of credulousness as evolution just because some people believed it was the case, then he "believed" the world and all life was created by a flying spaghetti monster and that should also be treated with equal weight. Interesting site

If a man speaks in the forest and there are no women around to hear is he still wrong?
Re: The Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster
It's a good idea.
I have long admired Richard Dawkins idea that "belief" in something should not confer status, the Flying Spagetti monster is an extension of that idea.
I also like the way that TFSM pokes fun of the ritual which has grown around religion, and the use of cliche'd homilies.
"All praise his noodley appendages".

Everyone's heard of this church. Where have you been the last five years? Its evolution into full-blown Pastafarianism has been hilarious. FSM is probably the fastest growing religious denomination in the world.thestoat wrote:Has anyone heard of this church?

TFSM is great and I love it! Almost as good as Life of Brian which is brilliantGob wrote:It's a good idea. Dawkins is a crap writer and philosopher - and a hypocrite. He believes without one shred of evidence in "multiverses" and/or (depending on how the wind blows) the oscillating universe theory long-since discarded by decent (non-Christian) scientists including that StepenHawkit fellow. Dawkins has to conjure up such non-science in order to avoid (a) his horror of fine-tuning of the universe (scientifically and not religiously speaking) and (2) his fear of a universe which actually had an actual beginning 13.7 billion years ago. I wish the Bloem library stocked his books (they have just reached "The Origin of Species") so I could read them thoroughly without putting money in his pocket - kind of like you and Murdoch, Gob.
Dawkins is right up there with Todd Burpo - popular brain-dead mush

PS did I forget to say IMO?
For Christianity, by identifying truth with faith, must teach-and, properly understood, does teach-that any interference with the truth is immoral. A Christian with faith has nothing to fear from the facts
Re: The Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster
Dawkins believes in the mutiverse, but is prepared for it to be proved otherwise. Are you prepared to believe in the non existence of god?

Re: The Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster
Gob, in yer sig line you have faith is a cop-out.
Faith in general or just faith in God?
Just askin...

Sometimes it seems as though one has to cross the line just to figger out where it is
Re: The Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster
How is that a comparison? Preparing to change your mind is gaining knowledge. I gain more knowledge about the spiritual over time, so my belief grows.Gob wrote:Dawkins believes in the mutiverse, but is prepared for it to be proved otherwise. Are you prepared to believe in the non existence of god?
I don't how you can prepare to have knowledge taken away from you.

Re: The Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster
That's exactly what the flat earthers said as well.
Bah!

LOL They learned more about the earth, nothing was taken, something was added.
Re: The Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster
I guess it was missed the first time, faith isn't proven it's cultivated.

In the sky, there is no distinction of east and west; people create distinctions out of their own minds and then believe them to be true.

Why is it that when Miley Cyrus gets naked and licks a hammer it's 'art' and 'edgy' but when I do it I'm 'drunk' and 'banned from the hardware store'?

I can understand a campaign for acceptance of other choices of belief, like atheism, but if I understand correctly, there's a position out there that not just religion, but faith, shouldn't be allowed; that there's an active advocation to remove other choices than atheism. IMHO that's intolerant and close-minded.
Re: The Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster
Why yes I agree that it would be very intolerant and close-minded. So tell me more... I would like to hear more about these reprobates!

Re: The Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster
Obviously Lo still believes in the tooth fairy/santa/the bogeyman under the bed and all the things she was taught as a child, as it is impossible to stop believing in anything once you've been informed of it.
