Prayers, please

Two weeks ago I realized that my dear Little Bear had gone almost entirely blind. She's off to see the veterinary opthamologist today and I suspect he will confirm that she has PRA, which is a progressive non-curable condition that leads to total blindness. I've already purchased a good book on how to help your blind dog lead a full & happy life. She is only 5 years old.

Two weeks ago I had to take my older dog (15) Jenny in for ultrasound and biopsies as her routine blood work showed possible signs of lymphoma. The tests came back all clear except some liver damage calling for supplements to assist liver function; then this morning I woke up to find she'd wet her bed and she was stumbling in circles, falling down, shaking her head and one eye was spinning. Rushed her to the vet who is confident it wasn't a stroke, hopeful that it's just vestibular disease (like vertigo in people) that will clear up in a few days . . . but it could also be a brain tumor.

So I'd just like to ask y'all to pray for my sweet dear pups, because even if you think I'm an asshole, my dogs are really awesome and they deserve to be healthy and happy.

Thanks!

Sending love and prayers to your critters BSG...

And if our critters could do it; (our dogs Lucky, Foxy, and Domino, and our cats Lisa and our latest feline addition Coco Puff, and our Parrot Max) I'm sure they'd all want to send love and prayers to your critters too... :ok

I don't do prayers, because...well, you know...but you and your dogs have my love, hope, and warm fuzzy wishes for your/their health and happiness.

Sending all the best to your fur babies, and strength for you to be able to manage whatever comes next with them.

Blind dogs are not helpless, and can be fun, but take a lot of care and love. Wishing you all all the best.

Little Bear has SARD, cause unknown but possibly brought on by Cushing's syndrome which might have been caught had she had bloodwork to determine why she experienced unexplained weight gain late winter despite no change in diet. Instead she was just put on a diet food and now the extensive vision loss is irreversible. She's on thyroid meds and mass dose antioxidants to see if her remaining sight can be preserved - but it's unlikely she sees much more than a little light and shadows.

Jenny can't stand up very long without falling and is still holding her head cockeyed and won't eat. The veterinary specialist from Colorado who saw Little Bear did a free exam of Jenny (I wouldn't leave her home alone in this condition) and told me everything he knows about vestibular disease. I'm hopeful she'll be much better in a week or two but she might end up with a permanent cockeyed tilt to the head.

Have a migraine so in my room resting and I'm all alone upstairs because Jenny can't climb and is too heavy for me to carry and I didn't want her to be alone so Little Bear is with her.

Definitely on a new journey here.

My prayers and best wishes are with you and your doggies bigskygal. Nothing is more loving and faithful than a dog. There is a reason dog spelled backward is GOD. I've seen blind dogs lead a full life. Just don't rearrange the furniture.
