Was Eve created from Adam’s penis? Cal PhD is seriously arguing just that
By Beth Spotswood on December 28, 2015 at 4:11 PM
A biblical scholar has suggested that due to an unfortunate mistranslation in the Bible, God did not create Eve from Adam’s rib but rather from his penis. Needless to say, several historical purists are up in – arms.
Professor Ziony Zevit from the American Jewish University in Maryland has proposed his theory in a new book, “What Really Happened in the Garden of Eden.” According to Zevit, the Hebrew word ‘tsela’ in the Old Testament does not translate as ‘rib.’ Rather, Zevit believes that ‘tsela’ means a limb sticking out sideways from an upright human body, and contextually translates this to penis. Furthering this hypothesis, Zevit uses his new translation to explain why man is the only mammal without a penis bone – because Adam used his to make Eve.
Biblical Archeological Review published a review of Zevit’s book and once devoted readers of the religious magazine are threatening to cancel their subscriptions. Comments on the BAR’s Facebook posts of the September/October 2015 issue include, “Is it the BAR agenda to cast doubt and try to discredit most of what the Bible says? If so, wouldn’t want to be with BAR come judgement day,” and “This article is sensationalist junk.”
Zevit graduated from the University of California at Berkeley with both a Masters and PhD. His controversial book maintains a 4.6 star rating on Amazon.

November 2012 and back to 2001... "reignited"
Was it sacrificed for the sake of woman?
While the lack of a human penis bone may have interested evolutionary scientists for many years, it has recently attracted attention from professors of Theology as well. The debate was reignited in 2001 with the publication of a letter entitled Congenital human baculum deficiency: the generative bone of Genesis 2:21-23. Without wishing to delve into a religion vs. science debate, perhaps the most surprising aspect of this article is that it was published in the American Journal of Medical Genetics, with its central theory that God took Adam’s os penis to create Eve in the Garden of Eden, rather than his rib:
Ribs lack any intrinsic generative capacity. We think it is far more probable that it was Adam’s baculum that was removed in order to make Eve. That would explain why human males, of all the primates and most other mammals, did not have one.2
The authors then go on to cite possible mistranslations of the Hebrew word ‘tzela’, which can be translated as ‘rib’ or more generally as a supporting structure such as a baculum

It may be old news but it could explain why women always seem to stiffen up when they see me.

“I worked with Freud in Vienna. We broke over the concept of penis envy. Freud felt that it should be limited to women.”
Wasn't that a quote from Nowoody Allen?

(a) Now I understand why my comrades used to refer to an erection as a "boner."
(2) What sort of a language has a word for, "a limb sticking out sideways from an upright human body"? How often did it come up?
(iii) What a great example of Intellectual Thought. As in, "some ideas are so ridiculous that only an Intellectual could take them seriously."
