Don't forget the Fifth Horseman -- The Lone Ranger

HE believes...
That to have a friend, a man must be one.
That all men are created equal and that everyone has within himself the power to make this a better world.
That God put the firewood there, but that every man must gather and light it himself.
In being prepared physically, mentally, and morally to fight when necessary for what is right.
That a man should make the most of what equipment he has.
That "this government of the people, by the people, and for the people" shall live always.
That men should live by the rule of what is best for the greatest number.
That sooner or later...somewhere...somehow...we must settle with the world and make payment for what we have taken.
That all things change but truth, and that truth alone, lives on forever.
In my Creator, my country, my fellow man.

And the Green Hornet is his nephew--what could be better?

What triggered that response Ray?

No, LR. That would be Roy Rogers. The Lone Ranger rode Silver.

All are fictional tales designed to teach us about morality and the consequences that might befall us if we fail to walk the straight and narrow according to almighty God.
"Hi-Yo, Trigger! Away!"

And don't forget the
Sixth Horseman...Dennis Moore*:
"You move at your peril, for I have two pistols here. I know one of them isn't loaded any more, but the other one is, so that's one of you dead for sure, or just about for sure anyway. It certainly wouldn't be worth your while risking it because I'm a very good shot. I practice every day...
Well, not absolutely every day, but most days in the week. I expect I must practice four or five times a week, at least four or five, only some weekends... like last weekend, there really wasn't the time, so that moved the average down a bit. I should say it's definitely a solid four days' practice every week..."
*Not to be confused with the aforementioned
Clayton Moore....

I guess I could pretend that I meant that all along, but it was a mid-age brain fart. I should have it imprinted, having visited the stuffed Trigger at the old Roy Rogers Museum in Victorville.

And Roy Rogers rode Dale Evans.

Nah, Dale was his beard--he rode Trigger every day.

You sure it wasn't Trigger that rode Dale?

Maybe when Roy wasn't around--but I heard his nickname was hair-trigger, and he usually shot his load pretty fast. And unlike most horses, he was chosen to be on TV because he was hung like a pimple (and wouldn't offend the kids with anything to see), but then Dale learned to appreciate the little things in life.

I worked for Roy Rogers way back when.
Fast food of choice back then.

I understand that's where Trigger finally wound up.

One of the many stories about the notorious Joe Venuti (Jazz violinist) is that his band was appearing with Roy Rogers who would appear on stage with his horse which would rear up and paw the air with his hooves. Joe is supposed to have reached over with his violin bow and gotten trigger into a state of flagrant and impressive masculinity just before this scene giving the audience a lot more than they expected.

I was having trouble with this, because it seemed to me that if Roy was coming out on stage
with Trigger, presumably he would have noticed his, uh, condition, and not brought him out...
Plus I couldn't figure out how Venuti was supposed to be able to do this with Roy right there with Trigger, waiting to come on stage...
But when you follow the link, that's apparently not how it is supposed to have happened:
Here's one last Venuti story:
During the late 1940's, after World War II , the hot places for bands of all sizes to play were the movie theatres that featured Saturday morning kiddie matinees. Usually theatres like this would have jugglers , comedians, puppeteers or other acts who would do their thing and entertain kids before the movie was shown.
Lumped together on one of these tours was the unlikely combination of JOE VENUTI and ROY ROGERS with Trigger, the Smartest Horse in the Movies! Most of the theatre marquees would have the name of Roy Rogers in giant letters , Trigger's name below that in slightly smaller letters and finally in almost tiny letters , Joe Venuti. Of course, having the super ego that goes along with being a super star. Joe hated having his name below a horse and schemed to get even.
On one sunny Saturday morn , things came quickly to a head. With the theatre full of rowdy kids, Roy was onstage singing his heart out and Trigger waited patiently in the wings to be called onstage for his part of the show. Venuti said to himself " That's it…….enough is enough!"
With his violin bow, Venuti began tickling the plumbing of Trigger…who, by the way was a frisky full-blown stud who had never been cut. Sure enough, Joe got the desired result and out flopped a king-sized "Smartest Horse in the Movies" schlanger!
As Roy finished his last song and whistled Trigger onstage , the palomino galloped out in all his erect studly glory…while kids laughed and cheered and moms screamed. Roy almost fainted.
Offstage, Joe Venuti laughed himself almost into hysterics over that one…the perfect revenge.
Those logistics make the story a lot more plausible...
And perfectly understandable...
Getting third billing after a horse would probably piss off anybody...
