A genuine optimist sees the glass as half-full



A genuine realist sees the glass as half-full or half-empty; same thing really



A true pessimist knows the glass is empty because one of those two bastards will drink it first

An optimistic realist who is also a pessimistic pedant is happy to see a glass with water in it but believes the water is contaminated and is sure that someone either chose the wrong size glass or underestimated the amount of water required for a glass of its size.
