In Aus we've had the floods, and the typhoons, in New Zealand they've coped the mine explosion and now the earthquake.

The best people to assist in these natural disasters are our service men and women.

So why are they out in Afghanistan fighting and being killed in a pointless "war"?

Don't worry, servicemen and women take on all fronts; a National State of Emergency Declared is a given the military will be there.

That's the entire Australian armed forces out there is it? Not to mention the NZ wallahs. My son must be surrounded by a cocoon of safety - thanks cobber!

I'm not sure how the laws of Australia work, but here in the U.S. it goes like this: We hold elections to appoint people to represent our interests in the legislatures and executive offices. We generally vote for people who share our viewpoints. Then they decide (based on knowledge and information that is far superior to what the average bloke has access to) how the resources of the country should be applied.

Even if we didn't vote for the person who represents us, we respect their right to make those decisions, because we accept the concepts of democracy and representative government.

So to say that the "war' that our elected representatives have chosen to pursue is "pointless," means that we believe that we - sitting in our armchairs and eating toast - are better equipped to make these vital decisions than those we have elected to make them.

Curious. Perverse.

So our representatives are ALWAYS right in their decisions and should not be questioned or criticized? Indeed, in the case of "war" isn't it one of the jobs of our representatives to explain to "us"--armchairs and all--why these decisions are correct and why it is worth the cost?
