Needless to say, there is much that has gone on in the Catholic Church that as a Catholic, has frequently given me a tremendous sense of anger and shame...
However I am genuinely proud of the way The Church has responded to the health crisis...
The tone and policy has been set from the very top by The Holy Father; I don't know what's going on everywhere, but I don't believe there is single Arch Diocese in the US where Church services are being held...
I also frequently see Catholic priests, Bishops and Cardinals being interviewed on the TV, being very supportive of the health orders, and offering comfort and reassurance to The Faithful that the religious community can remain strong and connected without the need to congregate physically...Many provide online services, (this will be especially true for Easter)
A little while ago, I watched Pope Francis Easter Vigil on the Catholic TV station. (I confess it's not a channel that I frequently view....)
I don't think there could have been more than a couple of dozen in attendance, all participants in the ritual and music of the Mass (all seated with more than the recommended six feet of social distance) in the massive space of St. Peter's Basilica...

Here's a different kind of Good News this Easter: You'll be able to get a front-pew seat from home at the St. Patrick's Cathedral Easter Mass this year.
PIX11 will broadcast live from the cathedral on its website and its Facebook page and it will be streamed on the Cathedral's YouTube page, starting at 10am on Sunday.
While the church has canceled public gatherings and services for the foreseeable future, the livestream will continue a very hallowed tradition here in New York City.
"We may not be able to gather in our churches this Easter, but, thanks to PIX11, we’ll be together in spirit," said Cardinal Timothy Dolan in a statement. "I look forward to praying with all of you, in a very special way, for those who have died and their families, the sick, and the doctors, nurses, and health care professionals who have been courageously fighting this disease."

About a month ago I noticed the Catholic Church parking lots empty when Pope Francis issued his decree that masses should be halted; I was more than a little dismayed to see so many other denominations still fully attended. I am anxious to see what the church parking lots will look like tomorrow; I hope that here in Massachusetts they are now abiding by the governor’s stay at home order, but it’s Easter and some church people are crazy so who knows?
It’s going to be a nice day so after I cook him breakfast my client will want a ride, the two of us masked to protect each other in my little Reva’s passenger compartment. I’m a bit nervous because he’s been foolishly going to Dunkin drive thru every morning he admitted to me, and also visiting the small office where his kids run the family biz and about a dozen workers pop in and out - way more risk than he should be exposing himself to at his age and with both hypertension and diabetes, but apparently he’s in the company of many older Americans who are largely dismissing the CDC guidance for elders. Maybe when you’re so close to death it’s not so unwanted, but it sucks that being foolish like that puts others at risk, too.
