This has already been done in another thread, Ray. The guy's a dick with his gatherings and some other things, OK?

But the criticism is so slanted as to be worthy of Faux News.
he suggests we should all donate our stimulus checks towards evangelists and missionaries who “haven’t had an offering in a month”
What's wrong with suggesting that? He isn't suggesting you should do it and he's not suggesting "all" people should do it. Atheists for example are not in his purview. He doesn't put himself first (at least, not according to his suggestion) but urges support of people such as missionaries who, in case you haven't noticed, are humans who need food as well.

He most certainly is not singling out "people in poor financial positions" as the lying journo weasel wrote. Are not many comfortably off people receiving these $1200 payments - I think we are.

My own church here in Bloemfontein will run out of money at the end of this month. We have some small savings squirreled away and that will be gone before long. Are we not to ask ourselves to step up? Are we not to recommend that all Christians should look to help their local congregation and get donations for them?

Hypocrisy fits all feet.

Malachi 3:10
Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need.

Depends on your definition of comfort, and where you live. The full $1200 payment phases down at $75,000 annual AGI for a single, and cuts off entirely at $99,000. Double for married couples. Not chicken feed for sure, but when housing is expensive as it is here and in many other locations, then roll in student loans, transportation, and the occasional meal, “comfort” is certainly relative. In other parts of the country those dollars go much further.

Well, there is that. Even so, doesn't the good book say, "From each according to ability..."?

OK it wasn't THAT good.... but it was better than the tough sledding of this one:

PS this was even better (because much shorter):

But my real favorite was this:

The Reverend Tony Spell.

Obviously he needs the cash to bail his sanctimonious, Trump loving, ass out of jail.

Controversial Pastor Tony Spell emerges from jail throwing the 'V' sign after his wife flashed a wedge of cash used to bail him out on charges of 'trying to reverse a bus over a protester'

Religion -- it's going to kill us all.

And you believed him. You took his "Trumpio-religious" bait hook, line, and sinker.

This example is exactly why religion is failing miserably among younger people under 40. The biggest piles of continuous bull shit stink the worst.

Indeed, hypocrisy fits all feet.

Getting cranky in your old age, eh? Whether he meant it or not, what he said was first give to others (not him). What the lying weasel journo wrote was that he was telling all people to give to him, especially those who could least afford it. Which wasn't true.

Go back to torturing kittens or whatever you do in place of rationality :nana

Heh heh. I've been doing that (secretly) for a long time. Is it working?

I don't go to church. It is a waste of time for me and the church. However I am fully aware that there are some churches locally that really live up to Christian tenants and do a lot for the community. Our local St. Mark's is an example of the church doing some actual good and not just in the business of fleecing the peasants and picking their pockets. I support St. Mark's due to their thrift shop and food bank which actually help people who are down and out. A couple of times a year I write out a decent check for the food bank and give all my gently used clothing to them for thrift shop. (In what might be thought of as a rather passive aggressive move I once gave them some rather racy but unworn lingerie to the shop, think red and black bustier with lots of lace and some matching panties. I take a delight in thinking it blew the church ladies minds, but likely not.)

So bottom line, churches require donations but asking anything from people hard hit up would be the dickest of dick moves.
