All change

Post by thestoat »

A particle accelerator in the US has shown compelling hints of a never-before-seen particle, researchers say.

The find must be more fully confirmed, but researchers at the Tevatron are racing to work through existing data.

If proved, it will be a completely new, unanticipated particle; researchers say it cannot be the much sought-after Higgs boson.

It could also signal a new fundamental force of nature, and the most radical change in physics for decades.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-13000253
However, the result is at what is known as the "three-sigma" level of certainty; that means there is still about a tenth of a percent chance that the result is attributable to some statistical fluctuation in the data.
Research is a wonderful thing.

Indeed! Did I ever tell you about the time that I redesigned the blueprint for the 90 degree Magnet object split for the Particle Accelerator at University of Wisconsin?

Ahh. That's another story. And oddly enough, totally verifiable. Who woulda thunk it? 8-)

I found an unanticipated particle once.

No idea what one of those is - but it sounds damn saucy. Would it be a giant leap in deduction to suggest you know a little of physics then?

I'd rather see cold fusion, which would at least have some tangible value.

Are we all aware that the Federal Government is funding a perpetual search for cold fusion at Princeton University? The amount we spend every year is chickenfeed, relatively speaking, but it is one of hundreds of never-ending sinkholes into which we deposit our federal tax dollars.

Yeah but that's a used unanticipated particle. The South Korean new ones get a lot more

I've seen that never before seen particle.

It is mixed in with all the dusting I haven't done for the past four weeks.
Bah!

What is this "dusting" to which you refer?

The Stoatster. Thank you for responding, and reasonably. And yes- I know "little" of physics. *snark*

I wished that I knew more. And I have done some serious research on the subject. But what I find intriguing is that whilst most folks are looking out, I am fascinated by the looking in. The Hubble has shown us galaxies upon galaxies, Universes even - in the darkest of spots with the longest reaching telescope ever devised by humans. Truly a sight to behold. (I have pics!)

Yet, we are just scratching the surface of what makes "us". By that I mean everything that we 'experience' and how we exist.

Quantum Physics is what is really interesting to me. The scientific fact- is that we are all experiencing what we perceive to be reality is only A certain "vibration" whether through light or sound, touch and smell, or feel, correct? What we base our basic existence upon is truly remarkable in that when we break it down to its elemental essence; it is "vibration"...

And taken further; that this same 'vibration' on a Quantum molecular level has the exact same huge 'empty' spaces [Dark Matter?] as between the galaxies that we see through the Hubble telescope blows my mind.

When I use the adjective AWESOME here, I am totally falling short of the beauty and power of what I mean to express.

Science may have answered a lot of questions for me. And will continue to do so. Whilst doing what it does best. Asking questions. And Seeking answers to things unknown. Just like myself in the Eternal quest for knowledge.\

However, I believe that what science has shown me, personally, cannot rectify or justify a belief that "THIS" All - WE and the entire planet, Solar System, Galaxy, Universe just happened by accident.

There are some very strange things going on at the quantum level that certain Mystics seemed to have learned, yet elude the average neophyte. And Science has not yet to been able to quantify what that is exactly. Very interesting stuff that.

What "Science" has shown me with every breakthrough and new discovery is that I should be more humble than I was before.-

Because even on a quantum level; the space between me and perfect knowledge are multi-verses apart.

And you know what? I kinda like it that way.

Peace 8-)

Oh dear, I did open that can of worms known by the name "Intelligent Design" didn't I?

Did I forget to say that the above was just my humble opinion? I believe I did... 8-) :D

Tim- how many dolphins can dance on the head of a pin-ster ;)

PS: And thank you sir; I will be posting more pics of the Aviary, Sting Ray lagoon, and Sea World this evening.
hope you enjoy and trust that all is well with you and yours.

Oh! And Release the Hounds!

pps: Speaking of releasing the Hounds; I miss DR X. And the Rev. Where are these bloody atheists [the best I ever met] when I bloody well need them? Not that the current crop is not up to the task. I just miss them. *sigh* God does indeed work in 'mysterious' ways...

Guess what particles you can discover with these physics?

I suspect that only someone who is very anal would know the answer to that question.

"Howl".
;)

Actually that was a really nice piece you penned - so clear to see the passion in your words. (How can you "see" multiple universes by the way - is that mathematically or due to gravitational experiments? Or some other way? I trained in physics and love that stuff).

:ok Big up.

I am not sure how you would take this - but Richard Dawkins would be very proud of you. (Here I am inviting the hounds). The message I took from the last book of his I read (God Delusion) is that it doesn't matter if you believe in a god or not - as long as you think about it and reach an informed conclusion. You have clearly done so and I salute you.
