Gays and Christians clash in street rally
Updated Sat May 14, 2011 10:54pm AEST
The violence broke out during a rally to mark International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia on Saturday.
The protest began peacefully with 150 members of the gay and lesbian community gathering to stage a mass wedding, calling for equal rights for gay marriage.
But when members of the Christian Street Church crashed the rally, tension escalated.
Protester Mel Lecke was pulled from her wheelchair.
"I think it's disgusting, you know we don't go and protest outside churches saying there is no God," she said.
Lesbian and church minister, Reverend Sue Wickham, says it was an awful end to a peaceful demonstration.
"I feel sad that it happens. I feel sad that there is still a vocal minority who always seem to be in the media who don't necessarily represent the view of the whole church," she said.
"Anyone who carries a banner that begins with the two words 'God Hates' is to my mind is not representing the Christ that Christians believe in."
The Christian Street Church's Damien Gloury says he was mobbed and hit.
"We're just preaching the Bible, we're quoting the bible and it says that homosexuality is a sin," he said.
"We thought we would go out and not try to disrupt because we do love everybody, it might sound like we're condemning people but we're not we're just preaching the Bible.
"We've been mobbed, we've been hit, our banners have been thrown down and these people have been hating our guts just for proclaiming the Christian message in this nation and that's what it's about," he said.
Protester James Vigos says the gay and lesbian community will not be disheartened by the violence.
"A very vocal minority can't stop progress," he said.
Police were called in and several street preachers were forcibly removed, but no one was arrested

Often as not, as well. Man is responsible for his own hate; God's message is to love each other.

Christians do not "hate" people who, through no choice of their own, believe they can only find true sexual gratification with other people of their own gender. We are all inclined to sin, can't help it, and should not be criticized for the inclinations we have (unless we nurture them, fertilize them, and watch them grow).
But Christians - basing thier beliefs and feelings on what they believe is the word of God - HATE homosexual sodomy (as well as many other forms of "sin"). And although we all understand that ascribing emotions to "God" is a bizarre form of anthropomorphism, I think it is fair to say that God "hates" sodomy, he "hates" bestiality, he "hates" murder, theft, slander, adultery, lust, and on and on. This is true even though we have a LOT of people who take great pleasure in sodomy, bestiality, sadism, theft, gossip, various forms of illicit copulation, and so on.
So when a group of people decide to hold a public demonstration, promoting the joys of homosexual sodomy (which is basically what we are talking about), it should not be surprising that some highly-motivated Christians might feel compelled to hold a counter-demonstration (or however you want to characterize it), to vociferously state that, based on their understanding of the most important compilation of documents in Western Civilization, the promoted behavior is morally wrong, and those who promote and engage in it are doing something wrong.
(a) Mark me down as skeptical about the guy being forcibly thrown out of his wheelchair. Make that a "Bullshit." I would wager a large sum of money that it never happened as described, and was totally staged by the "protesters."
(b) "God Hates Sin." How about that?

I was going to say, Human haters, be everywhere, but humans don't really hate either; they just don't understand. This is trait shared by humans of many/all faiths and beliefs.

If God was only capable of love, why would he invent such horrible, cruel and, for a God, needless ways to kills animals:
THERE are zombie ants droning and stumbling around Thailand, convulsing and falling over before succumbing to a painful death with a leaf permanently clenched between their jaws...

Or why would God have animals ripping other animals to death, or eating them alive
If God doesn't hate, then he is at the very least, extremely cruel.

The LORD is a jealous God, filled with vengeance and wrath. He takes revenge on all who oppose him and furiously destroys his enemies! The LORD is slow to get angry, but his power is great, and he never lets the guilty go unpunished. He displays his power in the whirlwind and the storm. The billowing clouds are the dust beneath his feet. At his command the oceans and rivers dry up, the lush pastures of Bashan and Carmel fade, and the green forests of Lebanon wilt. In his presence the mountains quake, and the hills melt away; the earth trembles, and its people are destroyed. Who can stand before his fierce anger? Who can survive his burning fury? His rage blazes forth like fire, and the mountains crumble to dust in his presence. The LORD is good. When trouble comes, he is a strong refuge. And he knows everyone who trusts in him. But he sweeps away his enemies in an overwhelming flood. He pursues his foes into the darkness of night. (Nahum 1:2-8 NLT)

Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! Isaiah 5:20
Wherefore thus saith the LORD God of hosts, Because ye speak this word, behold, I will make my words in thy mouth fire, and this people wood, and it shall devour them. Jeremiah 5:14

If there was no cruelty, we would not know kindness.
If there was no evil, we would not know goodness.
That's the way I look at it anyway.

I would think that the absence of cruelty and evil we would be left with kindness and goodness. I can't see anything wrong with that. Why not make your creation that way in the first place?

He, if in fact there is a he at all, created with a penchant for evil.
And if you go that route that some woman tempted a man with an apple a very long time ago why must every living creature ever after suffer evil's consequences?
It would make one believe this creator was deeply mentally ill.

No. God does not "hate". And She is a female of many breasts'. Androgynous. All things to All people.
And why do people insist on assigning a gender? Oh, right. The Biblical record? *sigh* Indeed. the "Bible" does advocate a familial hierarchy (Father - Son - and that other kid that we collect for, but he is not our favorite. Because he is kinda spooky...) that I think was intended to relay a message to a backward and primitive society.
Ok. For instance. The Leviticus law concerning the putting away of a woman that was menstruating. These "laws" were intended for the HEALTH of the tribe. In a primitive society. Read deeper asshoppers. And Leviticus shows how to live a healthy life style. Not only then. But now.
I can make the "Bible" say anything I want.
Go ahead. Dare me.

I have no doubt you can, Timster. For me, that is one of the problems with it.
