The Myth of Horus'

Post by loCAtek »

Baby pictures

This god is about as convoluted as Dionysus;

HAROERIS
Ancient God of Light, and the original version of HORUS, known as The Elder.

He was originally the son of RA and NUT. But, feeling lonely, he switched birth certificates to be born by GEB and NUT. Just when you thought he would have settled down to family life he decided he didn't want to be the elder any more. So when OSIRIS and ISIS attained popularity, he decided to be reborn yet again as their son HORUS.

With a falcon head he went to cause much confusion, claiming counterpart shares with just about every other God with a similar head. Maybe this was the first implementation of copyright.

For some reason, a lot of scrutiny is placed on the way his mother Isis (as opposed to his mother Nut?) held him in family portraits. Some are claiming that, that pose was stolen by Mary and Jesus.

Isis and Horus-Jesus and Mary;

For one, Mother Mary is never seen breast-feeding the baby Jesus, and for two...

My question is: What mother doesn't pose with their child [male, female or mutant] this way?

Etcetera, Etcetera, Etcetera, Etcetera, Etcetera, Etcetera, Etcetera....

i willing to bet most of us have similar portraits on their mantlepieces?

Even some 'father & child' poses, 'eh?

If we pose with them; does that null and void, our progeny as copy-cats?

Are all our kids the same!? Image

Godchecker is 100% non-denominational. Our Holy Database aims to cover all Gods of mythology, literature and legend. All Gods are welcome, whether Greek, Roman, Egyptian, or of No Fixed Abode. Polytheism is much more fun than monotonous monotheism. Terry Pratchett fans, Tolkien afficiandos, Douglas Adams devotees, Lovecraft lovers and Harry Potter nuts will love our selection of Goddities.
Well I know where I'll be going for all of my theist research in future! :roll:

If you had bothered to look at more than one site you might have found that Godchecker.com are talking out of their arses... after all, they don't claim to be anything more than an entertainment site...

This is a lot more accurate:
Haroeris

Greek name for the Egyptian god 'Her-wer', which means 'Great Horus' or 'Horus the Elder'. Originally there were several gods called Horus (which means 'the far-away one') in Egyptian mythology. One of them was one of the five children of the sky goddess Nut and thus the tenth member of the Ennead of Heliopolis. He was born immediately after Osiris on the second of the five epagomenal days added to the year. Then there was also the god Horus, the son of Osiris and Isis (thus the fifth generation in the genealogy of Heliopolis). To differentiate between them, and to ensure that these different gods did not lose their individual identities, the latter was called Harsiëse (in Egyptian 'Her-sa-Aset', Horus the son of Isis) and the name Horus the Elder was used for the god who was actually his uncle. The gods usually called the Sons of Horus (Amset, Hepi, Duamutef and Qebehsenuf) were the children of Haroeris and Isis.

Cool, we agree the 'mother and son' connection is miniscule to irrelevant since, the overall mythos is too highly convoluted and genrealized to support any theism, pro or con.

Now where did I post anything of the sort? Do NOT put words into my mouth! It is rude, pathetic and the last refuge of the weak debater.

All I did was bust your ill-informed and badly researched Horus myth...

Not my myth, but Gerald Massey's;
Claim #1-Horus and Jesus are born from a virgin.

Horus’s mother is Isis. Isis was married to Osiris. We do not know for what length of time, but presumably the marriage was consummated. Whether it was or wasn’t doesn’t matter though. After Osiris is killed, Isis puts him back together again (he was hacked into 14 pieces) except for his penis which was tossed in a river or a lake. Iris fashions a substitute penis for him, humps him and here comes Horus. There is nothing virginal about that.
...while the Godchecker site was humorous and some didn't get the jokes; can you dispute the photographic evidence?

You have, of course, once again completely misread your own source. First, the author of that piece clearly states that Gerald Massey believed Jesus to be a complilation of many Egyptian deities. Second, the claim which the author is responding to was not penned by Massey, but rather by someone named Les, to whom the author is directing his comments.

But that's what you get for trying to read through the bottom of a bottle...

No, you dozy twat. You posted it as supportive evidence not as humour. Once again you are hiding behind "it was a joke" when your bullshit is called out. You are a very weak person. It's amazing that all the years that you've spent on debating forums have taught you nine-tenths of fuck all about debating. A retarded monkey would've learned more by now...

It depends Sean, on whether the retarded monkey wanted to debate, in which case a major fail, or if they wanted attention....

LOL this accusation came after a decade of posting together... I wonder why he didn't just say that in the first place? Most have missed his notice all that time or it's just the latest control freak tactic.

Meanwhile back to the subject; I'd provide all the links, but it just takes googling keywords 'Horus, Jesus' to see all the pseudo similarities folks have drawn between the two.

In other words you have nothing. Have you alerted the many academics who have studied and researched the similarities they they are wrong?

BTW I did google as you asked. I used "Locatek" and "retarded monkey" as keywords but it kept redirecting me to Jose Cuervo's site.

I did find this for you though...

So why is it when I search and find a seemingly well researched debate that contradicts your assertions, you say that we can't trust the Internet ... Yet you are happy to pull up any old tripe if it supports your claims?

If you want to make bullshit claims you shouldn't really rely on others to back them up for you...

I note you can't back up your claims about the pose being stolen by Mary and Jesus.

How surprising ... not.
