He says it so much better than I do...

For some time I have argued that God's inability to get a plain message of what is expected of us across, proves the non-existence of god.

Here's Billy on the same theme.

It only proves that you have made the choice not to believe, Gob.

See! Proof that God exists - and has a sophomoric sense of humor.

No wonder, he's male. ;)

. . . or maybe that God formerly existed as male, but decided to discard a piece of Her anatomy that did not conform to Her self-image . . . .

or . . . Quick! Has anyone seen Lorena Bobbitt lately?!

Anyone who can look around and not see any proof of the existence of God is simply being obstinate...can't or won't deal with the ramifications of His (Her) existence.

It's a fantastically beautiful world with much great goodness in it.

It's also a disgustingly ugly world with much great horror in it.

I can readily accept that ALL of that is driven by simple biology.

It is, in fact, of far greater comfort to me to accept that the universe is random, that good/beauty and horror/ugliness are random - than to accept that a divine Creator allows things to be as they are.

I no longer need fairy tales to cope in the world as it is. YMMV.

You could just as easily say, "Anyone who can look around and feel the need to see a creator's hand in everything is simply blinkered...can't or won't deal with the ramifications of the fact that God may not actually exist".

Makes just as much sense...

Yeah, but that phallic iceberg proves to me that God does have a sense of humor.

And that's where we differ Dales. All it proves to me is the existence of pareidolia... :)

Nonsense! If god was male that penis-berg would have been much grander and more important-looking.

So, phallicism doesn't prove or disprove God?

So, why would pedophilia prove or disprove God?

Those who can look around and say that all physical effects have physical causes created empirical science. Empirical science has reduced suffering more in 50 years than religion did in the last 2,000.

Empirical science has produced severe overpopulation of humans, which is the cause of dire planetary suffering. ...not everything is about humans.

Right. Overpopulation has nothing to do with religious dictates against the use of birth control.

You both have valid points...

Prohibitions against contraceptives don't help, but it's undeniable that without scientific advances; particularly in areas like medicine, pre and post natal are, and agri-science, you wouldn't have the population figures we see today....

Economics also plays a role...population growth is taking place at the fastest pace where having large numbers of children provides (at least a short term) economic benefit; more laborers to raise income for the families, daughters that can bring in dowerys, etc.
