Cee Lo Green changes lyrics to Lennon's Imagine to include pro-religion message enraging fans
I guess people don't have enough to be enraged about nowadays.
I'm sure that John would not have been the least bit offended by Cee Lo's interpretation.
In fact, anyone who is upset over this doesn't understand what the song is about.

John Lennon is laughing his @ss off at the sanctimonious people.
Please try to remember the kind of character J.L. was!

I think JL would agree that a necessary step to no religion will be a period of time during which all people respect all religions. In fact, the two can mean about the same - 'no religion' could mean simply a time when religion is so meaningless - like favorite color preference - as to be not worth a dinner table argument.
This controversy is evidence that most people have such closed minds, we'll never get there.

For me it's not about the 'religion' controversy. For me it's more about this arrogant twat who feels he can improve on Lennon's lyrics.
Who the fuck is he anyway?

I always found that particular song extremely vacuous and insipid; a hippy-dippy ditty that fairly screamed out for parody, so they can turn it into a burger-joint jingle as far as I'm concerned....

Yeah, I was always inspired by this Brit asshole with the mansion and Ferrari's going on about "imagine no possessions."
But it is irritating when people change the words (and distort the music) of other peoples' songs.

The whole album, Double Fantasy, wasn't one of his best works ...and as Elvis Costello asked, 'Was it a millionaire who said "imagine no possessions"?

"Imagine" was a song from Lennon's album titled, "Imagine."
Imagine that.
And the message (surprise!) was to imagine a world of peace.
People like to joke that John was a millionaire, so how could he write such a thing as 'imagine no possessions.'
It was John's imagination that made him a millionaire. At the time of its writing, he was trying to imagine a better world. Is that not possible to do if you have lot's of money?
It doesn't matter whether you like the song or think it should be used to sell hamburgers. Its message is there for those who see and appreciate it.
And to those who don't like the bloody song - 'You're still fucking peasants as far as I can see.'

Aw, I wasn't dissing the message ...but didn't George Harrison do it better? Why does John have to get all the credit?

I suppose the "message" of that trite tune is inspiring....
If you're the sort of person who thinks "What If They Gave A War And Nobody Came?" represents a deep and profound thought....

Well.... what if they gave a war and nobody came?
Let me think about that.
It's too deep for a quick response.

I'm not going to compare George to John. He was a great talent but very different from John. George wrote a lot of spiritual songs, but not many got airplay. And George wasn't out there promoting his philosophy and music as much as John.
(btw - on your list, all but one of the songs are from the same album)
Meanwhile, besides Imagine, John wrote some interesting songs, like...
Working Class Hero
Give Me Some Truth
Instant Karma
Give Peace a Chance
All You Need is Love
Crippled Inside
Revolution
Woman is the Nigger of the World
...that last one wasn't played on the radio much.

The list was far from complete, I just cut & pasted a few of the best examples.
How his stuff was promoted , doesn't make it less inspiring.
