The stupid HAS rubbed off

Post by Gob »

On whoever decided this complaint was worth following up!!!
Cardiff councillor's Scientology tweet goes to watchdog

A Cardiff councillor who referred to Scientology as "stupid" on a social network site has been referred to an ethics committee.

John Dixon said he was expressing an opinion in a private capacity

A Church of Scientology member complained about John Dixon's post on Twitter.

The Public Services Ombudsman has ruled there is a case to answer under the councillors' code of conduct.

Liberal Democrat Mr Dixon claimed he tweeted in a private capacity and his freedom of speech should be protected.

The referral follows a trip by Mr Dixon to London last year, where he walked past a Scientology centre.

He commented on his Twitter page: "I didn't know the Scientologists had a church on Tottenham Court Road. Just hurried past in case the stupid rubs off."

Well it's England. They don't really protect freedom of speech there.

Actually, to be pedantic, it's Wales (a little country just next to England ... like Scotland, but completely different in every aspect.)
Bah!

Only from the perspective of viewing it as a religion.

(From which vantage, frankly, most religions could be viewed as "stupid.")

Merits of particular religions notwithstanding Mystery religions are a special type of stupid.

You know, I'm actually beginning to think the Brits may be on to something...

Being able to toss politicians in the clink for saying dumb things (though in this case I don't see it as particularly dumb) would have certain advantages....

Of course it would also badly jam up our already over burdened court system....

I really think it depends on what you want a religion to do for you and what you get out of it. Like many other cultural expressions. It's mostly all a matter of taste.

I do not see the attraction to "you do not know what you really believe until you've invested "X" amount of time and/or money".

It's just so what's the word I'm looking for here?

Oh yeah...

Stupid 8-)

Except it's not a religion, it's all based on fact, ya know. Aliens souls did get frozen and interstellarly shipped to Earth; where they were fast-thawed out in a big volcano. However, the souls had all been freezer burned and were no longer dead spirits but 'thetans' or bad vibes. Making bad vibes all very scientific. (Makes you wonder where the good vibes are?)

You'd know this if you were audited 'clear'.

Cornwall, the only "country" where to be considered a true aboriginal, you do not have to be born there, you do not have to have parents who were born there, you do not have to have Celtic genes.

No, in order to be "Cornish", and in fact more Cornish than most people who were born there, all you have to do is to "feel Cornish" (and subscribe to whack job Cornish nationalism.)

I was told this by a Scouser who moved there 8 yrs ago and is now a leading Cornish nationalist. :loon
