Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?

My new favourite saying (thanks to my friend Katrina):

If you want to stir the shit, you'd better be ready to lick the spoon.
"If you don't have a seat at the table, you're on the menu."

I just can’t think how to feel now about the Dalai Lama.
For me, it is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring.

Does this help at all?

"You know, I’m automatically attracted to beautiful — I just start kissing them. It’s like a magnet. Just kiss. I don’t even wait. And when you’re a star, they let you do it.”
For Christianity, by identifying truth with faith, must teach-and, properly understood, does teach-that any interference with the truth is immoral. A Christian with faith has nothing to fear from the facts

I had loved the DL since I saw him interviewed by Barbara Walters many years ago. She asked him if he thought he was a God as many do/did. He said he was not a god as gods would not be wearing glasses as he does. Very funny guy but now I am afraid we might be seeing emerging dementia with a dark personality revelation.

When I first heard this, I was hoping that Tibetans engage in tongue sucking as a friendly greeting; I know, from an old documentary that they usually stick their tongues out as a greeting (not sure why), but it does not appear they do anything else (and his apology confirms this). I think @W might be right here, and it's pretty sad.

I spent a lot of years learning about and prosecuting pedophiles. More recently I’ve spent a lot of years learning about Alzheimer’s and related dementias, and treating patients with them - Alzheimer’s, Lewy Body, Parkinson’s, frontotemporal dementia (like poor Bruce Willis has), and run of the mill dementia associated with advanced age.

I don’t think dementia ever causes pedophilia. I think dementia can unmask a pedophile who previously either experienced the attraction and didn’t ever act on it (true of the majority of pedophiles) or one who has been an active child molester/child rapist across a lifetime but always covered it well.

Here’s something I found on the internet, a case study also suggesting pedophilia predated the symptoms of frontotemporal dementia the patient was ultimately diagnosed as suffering: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33856971/

I'm not surprised; I believe that most (if not all) people carry around dark things and urges (not necessarily pedophilia) that we never act (many times we may not even be aware of) on because of internal controls--when these are removed by some sort of dementia or injury, that control is removed and the person does things they would not ordinarily otherwise do. Sometimes these things are benign, other times they are far more serious.
