Re: Home for Random Thoughts
February 28 is NATIONAL TOOTH FAIRY DAY. Last night I put a quarter under my pillow. This morning I looked and it was still there. No new tooth.
In as much as the tooth fairy is nocturnal, perhaps I was a day early, or perhaps I did not take inflation into account. So I dug around in my sock drawer (isn't that the hidden treasure chest for adult males?) I found a two dollar bill and that is going under my pillow tonite. Either way I am not gonna tell my dentist about it. I think dentists are in league together to obstruct the tooth fairy.
snailgate.

You didn’t take inflation into account you cheapskate! Teeth to for about $5 now.
Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.

Was the Gulf of Mexico here illegally before it become the Gulf of America?

At least he didn't try to name it "The Gulf of Trump".
Oh, wait ... there already is one. It's that big expense of nothingness between Donald's ears.

Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?

Luigi should have held out for a higher objective. He had all the pedigree to gain a White House internship.

I think that people should probably be specific most of the time.

Joe, generally I agree with you. snailgate.

You got to hand it to Trump; history won’t soon forget him and in the end that’s what his ego needs.
Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.

Chiquita and Dole each have a very large piece of the banana market Chiquita having the lead in supermarket shelf space.
Why do they have to put so many damned stickers on the bananas???
Has anyone ever said ‘I’m not buying this unmarked bunch of bananas, they could be from anywhere!’

When I was a kid I recall my grandmother, who I often went shopping with (to carry the bags home), wouldn't buy any bananas but Chiquita. It was probably because of the TV commercials (and the song), but I really don't know. I don't think there is as much brand loyalties for bananas today, but maybe they are still using all the stickers they printed in the 50s/60s?

The stickers indicate the country of origin — and there's also probably a 4-digit 'look up' number printed on those stickers for the benefit of the person running the check-out counter. You'll see similar 4-digit numbers on stickers on things like apples, oranges, grapefruit, as well as on the plastic packaging on lettuce, celery, and grapes as well so the person doesn't have to by able to recognize head lettuce, leaf lettuce, romaine, or bok choy on sight. Just plop the item on the scale, key in the 4-digit code, and the computer then takes the weight, multiplies it by the correct per-pound price, and adds it to your grocery order.

Re: Home for Random Thoughts
I always do self check out. Bananas that aren't organic are PLU Code 4011. I guess 4011 means they're inorganic, which would mean they're composed of matter other than plant or animal.
Now that I think about it, I think I'll switch to organic.

Just use the Look Up without any codes. Call what you bought by any name less expensive - i.e. if you have eggs, call them tomatoes or whatever is less costly. If you have bread, punch in Apples
