Just saw Kathleen Turner on Hardball....

Man, has she packed on the pounds the last few years...

If it hadn't been for that signature voice, I wouldn't have even recognized her....

I have no doubt that this thread will stand the test of time. First, Crackpot loves Yahoo story comments. Second, who else needs any help to avoid them? (See appended chart)

Gob • 2 days 7 hours ago
They are not officially despised until they roll around on the floor like starving Targs clawing on each other. Maybe Crackpot does this in private out of respect for the guests who might not want to see that, either that or he only invited the posters that did.

If I was a betting man I would bet Crackpot reads them for all time.

That is really fun! As a total dweeb, I love Yahoo story comments like this one!

Why is it that lately peanuts in the shell cost more per peanut than shelled peanuts?

The hand sanitiser we use in work has moisturisers in it, it's really good for your elbow skin.

Here's a little English lesson for you Meade:

The next time you get the urge to play Grammar Nazi, why don't you try acting like the second vowel? :nana

What grammar? I was remarking upon the oddness of language - that the word "shelled" means the opposite of what one might think at least in the peanut context. That an "unshelled" peanut means one that has NOT had the shell removed, when the word itself would indicate in normal terms that it has been "unned" from its shell. I've seen the sacks labelled "shelled" peanuts - meaning without shells. Just a random thought about how odd American English can be - as indeed English English often is

In that case, shouldn't a "peeled banana " actually be an "unpeeled banana"?

What an interesting example! But what is a peel vs. a shell?

Is a peel a peel while it surrounds the banana? I think not. At that point it is a skin is it not? It would be the same with an apple - "wash that apple skin and then peel it off". It actually only becomes a "peel" after it is "peeled". But does a shell remain a shell after it is cracked and removed?

We certainly point to debris and say "oh, that's eggshell" or "see that crab shell?" I wonder if we are dealing with convenient alterations?

After one has peeled something, the removed portions probably should be termed "peelings" which over time has been
shortened to 'peel'. After cracking and removing a shell (at least from nuts), the debris may be better described as 'husks' or 'hulls' but those terms are not popularly used.

In the case of animal shells, we are probably being rather lazy in not saying "oh, those are pieces of eggshell" and "see those pieces of crab shell?" which are accurate modifiers of the word "shell" which implies an integral structure.

And at what point does 'random' become 'methodical'?

I just had to add that as at a meeting the other night there was a reference to someone who was in the hospital who was rushed into the ER for that exact thing. Listerine is my choice. J/K :ok
Thanks for the support. Doing very well although my sponsor thinks I am headed toward a relapse and has me doing a whole pile of things. Gratitude list every night, calling 4 drunks every day, reporting in to him at least once a day, huggin g my wife every time I get the chance. Sems to keep me on teh right path and he has 30 years sobriety, so who am I to argue.
