What grammar? I was remarking upon the oddness of language - that the word "shelled" means the opposite of what one might think at least in the peanut context. That an "unshelled" peanut means one that has NOT had the shell removed, when the word itself would indicate in normal terms that it has been "unned" from its shell. I've seen the sacks labelled "shelled" peanuts - meaning without shells. Just a random thought about how odd American English can be - as indeed English English often is

Is a peel a peel while it surrounds the banana? I think not. At that point it is a skin is it not? It would be the same with an apple - "wash that apple skin and then peel it off". It actually only becomes a "peel" after it is "peeled". But does a shell remain a shell after it is cracked and removed?
We certainly point to debris and say "oh, that's eggshell" or "see that crab shell?" I wonder if we are dealing with convenient alterations?
After one has peeled something, the removed portions probably should be termed "peelings" which over time has been
shortened to 'peel'. After cracking and removing a shell (at least from nuts), the debris may be better described as 'husks' or 'hulls' but those terms are not popularly used.
In the case of animal shells, we are probably being rather lazy in not saying "oh, those are pieces of eggshell" and "see those pieces of crab shell?" which are accurate modifiers of the word "shell" which implies an integral structure.

Thanks for the support. Doing very well although my sponsor thinks I am headed toward a relapse and has me doing a whole pile of things.
