If Lance Armstrong hadn't cheated to win them seven TdF races, we would now likely be watching the meltdown of the rider(s) who did. From every rational indication, all of the top riders of that era were doing the same thing, and evading detection in pretty much the same ways.

Lance may have had a big target on his back for (1) winning so often, and (2) being an American, but the winners would have been scrutinized and the truth would probably be coming out either sooner or later.

Which is not to absolve Lance. Just sayin...

If all of the top cyclists were "cheating", it's possible that if none of them were using, the results of each race would have been similar.

That assumes, of course, that the top cyclists were already the best of the best prior to using steroids.
