I think the commercials for the Outback says it all. The voice over is someone's poor attempt at an Australian accent. Why not use someone with the real thing. The only authentic Australian restaurant I've run across was The Australian Restaurant in Willow Glen, CA. It's owner Claude Anthony was quite a character, very involved in charities and coordinated the Australia Day picnic every year. The Outback is not even close in comparison. IMHO it's just a Chili's, Friday's, or Hooters with a bad Australian accent.

The House of Marmite?

Your collective inability to acknowledge this obvious truth makes you all look like fools.

The Australian restaurant's name was "The Australian Restaurant". Claude's meat pies, pavlovas, and snags were wonderful! And yes, he had Vegemite :P There is an Australian store in Santa Clara that (I make White Christmas for owner every year or so) has a good selection of items. I stop in when I get a hankering for Turkish Delight or Arnott's biccies.

Well that would be very Australian, the Aussies do have a wonderful way of being very blunt and direct when naming things.

Someone one wrote;

"What shall we call those dogs that herd cattle by nipping their heels Bruce?"

"Let’s call them "Heelers" Bruce"

"I thought "Australian Cattle Dogs" a good name too Bruce,"

"Yer right mate, let’s call the red coloured ones "Red heelers", the blueish coloured ones "Blue Heelers", and Call the breed "Australian Cattle dogs,""

"Fair dinkum Bruce."

Do you know what they call what we would call a switch card here? They call it an "Eftpos" card. Yup, bloody Eftpos. (Electronic Funds Transfer Point of Sale.) Nifty eh?

Oh and the local monopoly on gas, water electricity, who we have big beefs with at the moment, seeing as we live in the ACT, Australian Capital Territory, (There’s another one, we live in the bloody act!) is called "ACTEWAGL" (Work it out yourself)

Try phoning the bastards up and not giggling, "Hello is that Actewagl? Snurt, snigger, fnarr!"

The deadly 'Brown Snake' is in fact a brown snake that is deadly.

The 'Red-bellied Black Snake' is a black snake that has a red belly.

The Snowy Mountains are.

The Great Desert is.
Bah!

I make White Christmas for owner every year or so
I'd do almost anything for Turkish Delight but I draw the line at giving the owner a White Christmas - nudge, nudge

No Outback this weekend, way too crowded (guess us long islanders like you aussie folks, or at least "pretend" aussies). Went to Smokey Bones instead. Just finished up my baby back ribs and roasted corn for lunch today.
And they have the best unsweetened Ice Tea i have ever had.

I've never been to an Outback restaurant. I wonder if they serve Vegemite.

If not, how could they claim to be serving Australian style food?

So they must have it, right?

No vegemite. And I have no idea if their menu reflects authentic Aussie food (doubtful), nor do I care. They have good steaks, good ribs and good appetizers at a reasonable price. Much better than Applebees, TGIF, Red Lobster and other chain resturants.

Works for me, especially now that my favorite local resturant closed I do have to find a new one as I like to patronize local establishments.

ROTFLMFFAO!! That's as Aussie as Mount Rushmore, wrapped in Old Glory , eating Mom's apple pie, drinking Budweiser and singing Yankee doodle dandy!

Aussie food is easy to do:

If its hot food, cover it with BBQ sauce.
If its cold food, cover it with avocado.

Job done! :)
Why is it that when Miley Cyrus gets naked and licks a hammer it's 'art' and 'edgy' but when I do it I'm 'drunk' and 'banned from the hardware store'?

Where does the Vegemite come in?
Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.
