What... no carpeting? Here's something you can use to dress up your sow's ear. Hey, all "classic" restorations cost money.

https://www.weathertech.com/all-vehicle-mats-avm/
Trucks should not have carpet. Only my last F-350 did, and I hated it. My Jeep J-20, my first F-350, and my GMC K-35 had rubber floor mats. Heck, my car doesn't have carpet.

I miss my last F-350. :( Way too nice to be a work truck, though. :shrug :shrug

Pfft! A good pick-em-up truck doesn't need all its wheel bearings.

yeah, this one has been knocked out alignment at some time, and sat for years after.....

so I have to change at least one set......

no biggie, I hope. I really haven t researched it yet

I am used to f 100 and 150....., old ones....

it may be easier on the big heavy 8 lug wheels, idk.....

it was easier on the jeep, just remove and replace

who needs to pay 250 for a new wheel bearing

break the old bearing out with a 3 1/2lb sledge and cold chisel......

line up the new bearing level on the hub......

slowly use a tap hammer to begin seating the new bearing being sure to keep it level.....

once it s tight in the hub..... cover the bearing with a small piece of 1/4in plate and start beating the shit out of it with the sledge

if it works that s great and you saved a few bucks if not say fuck it and give the job to someone who knows what they re doing.....

just remember your pick em up truck is a piece of shit and you can t fuck it up more than it is

My old garage mechanic used to say, "I can fix stupid, but it's gonna cost you,"
and that's why he had this sign on the back wall of the work area:

wheel bearings are like 12 bucks, dude.

I ve changed easy ones and harder ones, not a big deal except that I m a physical wreck (not to mention my obvious mental issues....) :D , never changed a race yet, but I could do it with what I have If I had to.....

I want to change the race, because this is a really nice and rare truck, and like it s namesake, Greydog (jack London), it will carry on after me, it will head back to camp and carry on. my son loves greydog too.

so ray, I don t know why you would make fun of a good old dog.

maybe you are just mean.

funny, bill, I don t have a mechanic.....

I had one back in plylmouth MA, a real cool Jeep guy who worked on my old ford truck....

1975 f 150 supercab, two tone ford gold with a 390 car motor and a heavy duty german three speed that was a bitch to find in the junkyard after a bad synchro thru gears thru the side of it at 60 mph on route 6 to Hyannis....

anyway, he got that old tranny that I took out of a van with a tree growing thru it, had it rebuilt, and replaced it for me, only like 450....

...and he rebuilt my carb, for cheap.....

I would do most of that myself these days, even tho I m a cripple....

...it might take two weeks, but,hey....

anyway, you two are just natural commies..., fuck off.

oh my goodness!!!!!

what I m trying to figure out is whether or not AvE and "zip ties n bias plies" are brother s or if they are actually the same person.

AvE never shows his forearm but I m on the lookout for proof.

I need to get a youtube account just so I can drop a word of thanks to them, and a few others...

yeah, parts are just crap these days.

any suggestions on where to get quality parts?

dealership?

i guess a good parts store might have good ones, but advanced auto, while they usually have what i need in stock, has really crappy parts.

i guess on the internet, but i have few computer skills and less inclination to buy something sight unseen.

idk, i m a dinosaur, i guess.....

What, exactly, do you need?

Re: got me a new truck...,

by wesw
well, I need front wheel bearings, still haven t researched them....

I need a power steering pump, as the mount has cracked at the botton threaded hole and I had to fashion a yoke to hold it securely, that wont last forever and my belt rides funny.

I ll probably want an alternator, just in case......

...and I may go back to original type ignition module, it has a fancy ignition on it now, mopar or something, but I can t afford to replace that when it goes up, and it will....

so I want to switch it sooner or later.

I guess I want a tailgate too..., but not really.

I can get that at the junkyard

it is impossible to find the rear plastic door panels and trim for this truck, I know, I have researched that.

maybe used..... maybe at the junkyard, but no one that I can find makes new product for the rear trim at all

Bearings: Timken. NAPA or an industrial supply house.
Sounds like you need a PS pump BRACKET-junkyard. Any V-belt F-series, Bronco, or probably big van should use the same pump & bracket on a 351 or probably a 302.
Ignition should be the Duraspark that Ford used for almost 20 years. If it's an aftermarket MSD, it will last forever.

LMC Truck and Blue Oval Truck Parts both have all sorts of interior stuff.
