Do the right thing?

Post by Crackpot »

Where to begin....

My sister in law is pregnant again.

I'll let that sink in. Only it doesn't really matter since you don't know her and thus are immune to the existential horror that statement should cause you.

I wish I was being funny

So on top of her being an unfit mother 3 times over (going on 4). Her husband (who's fathering isn't anything to write home about either). Has been diagnosed with a rare auto immune disease.

My wife has brought up the notion of adopting the baby

It is something I too had thought of but there are many circumstances that make me think it may not be a good idea

That's the short story

More if I have the time and inclination.
Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.

Ah, childbirth is one of many of the miracles that God affords His consenting adults.

The aftermath, however, the child's welfare and well-being is left up to the mortal man and woman often loosely referred to as parents.

If you don’t mind me asking how old are you and your wife and is the baby expected to born with no birth defects?

I expected to be placed in an air force combat position such as security police, forward air control, pararescue or E.O.D. I would have liked dog handler. I had heard about the dog Nemo and was highly impressed. “SFB” is sad I didn’t end up in E.O.D.

Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?

Liberty--does your SIL have custody of her other children? If so, they are in the same boat as the new one will be and any plan should take into account the welfare of all of them. Adopting the baby could be a great plan if your SIL consents and the siblings are also dealt with, but get good legal advice if you decide to move ahead as there are legal trapdoors you could fall through if you don't watch it.

If you don't mind me asking Crackpot, is substance abuse an issue?
You don't have to answer and sorry for the question but I hear a lot of similar circumstances in the rooms, one or two I have written about in my adventure thread.

No known substance abuse. Something approaching "munchausen by proxy". I say approaching because she hasn't actually made them sick.

Has she been adjudicated unfit and lost custody of the 3 she already has?

Or is this just a family opinion of her parenting skills?

Update.

She had the kid (boy) around Christmas. Healthy according to everyone but her. ( not a joke ) then they decided to get a new puppy.   :arg :arg :arg :loon :loon :loon

The good news: at this point the whole family has got fed up with it and are going to stage an intervention and tell them that they ( the extended family ) will be taking care of the kids until they (the SIL and the husband) get thier shit together or CPS is going to be getting a whole shitload of calls.

The great thing is that the extended family has gone beyond the tut-tutting and decided to take action including offering to take all the kids in. Even my FIL has offered to take the older boy. (He’s the one that seems to have managed to take the least damage from his mother (I think partially out of spite))

I really hope this works.

Dysfunctional families... they're everywhere.

Reading about other people's problems is how I gauge my problems. I rarely think I'm worse off.

Keep the updates coming.
