Here at the door the long road ends
the cool shade waits within
and perfect rest from care

there was no water for my feet
except she washed them with her tears
and bent to wipe them with her hair

Within this door the road behind me
here no greeting kiss awaits
nor welcome host to care

nothing here to soothe my brow
except her costly perfume carefully saved
and poured upon my hair

he would know what kind she is
