The low number who identify with the term 'liberal' is driven by a level of enforced ignorance which keeps a large number identifying as conservative.


The past 100 years have seen the continual triumph of Liberalism in all of the G-20 nations.


LIberal ideas which have triumphed over often violent conservative opposition:

Free public education.
Religious freedom.
Freedom of speech.
Civil rights for blacks.
Women's rights.
Social Security.
Medicare.
Minimum wage
40-hour work week.
Workman's compensation.
Disability insurance.
Rural electrification.
Foreign policy should be significantly determined by the human rights records of other countries (Jimmy Carter was first but now a universally admitted principle).
No child should be required to attend prayers of other faiths in school. *
No religious sect should be promoted by the state in school or elsewhere.*
The rights of the state over the individual are limited.
Workers have the right to organize and the right to collective bargaining.

Imagine the world today if Conservatives had won the public debates rather than Liberals; even reptiles have evolved further than that.

*Religious bigots, who are all conservative by definition, are always happy to force others to observe their religion but hate all others whose belief differs; witness the violent hatred of Republican christians for Mormons, who in their daily lives are better Christians than they are.

A new AP poll finds that Americans who think the law should have done more outnumber those who think the government should stay out of health care by 2-to-1.

"I was disappointed that it didn't provide universal coverage," said Bronwyn Bleakley, 35, a biology professor from Easton, Mass.

More than 30 million people would gain coverage in 2019 when the law is fully phased in, but another 20 million or so would remain uninsured. Bleakley, who was uninsured early in her career, views the overhaul as a work in progress.

The poll found that about four in 10 adults think the new law did not go far enough to change the health care system, regardless of whether they support the law, oppose it or remain neutral. On the other side, about one in five say they oppose the law because they think the federal government should not be involved in health care at all.

Which is why the USA will go tits up soon. No country can afford to have such a one sided political equation without becoming entrenched in ideological stalemate.

Look at any mono-political country; Cuba, USSR, Iran, and how the lack of balance in political life creates huge problems.
