I am thinking that there might be an issue at hand of Muslims who have never actually read the Koran, or who have no ability to read in the first place who are simply taking the word of others who may or may not have read it.
Islam's problems with Blasphemy
Re: Islam's problems with Blasphemy
This is a problem with any religion that has depended upon the interpretations of a few to tell the many how to live, picking and choosing a few chapters to twist to fit their own ends.
Islam is not on it's own in this, look at WBC for example, but it does seem to be the worst for this type of behaviour. Whipping up mainly disaffected young men into a state of murderous frenzy, is a far greater slight on their souls than drawing a picture of one of their many prophets.

Oh I agree that it is an issue/problem in Christianity too, it has had MORE immediate deadly ramifications amongst the Muslims though. Religion can be twisted to meet many means.
My personal feeling is we need to stop teaching religion. (Yeah yeah I know.)

I agree - except that I'd start teaching Christianity, especially to "Christians".
For Christianity, by identifying truth with faith, must teach-and, properly understood, does teach-that any interference with the truth is immoral. A Christian with faith has nothing to fear from the facts
