He reminds me of someone

Post by Gob »

Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush has officially launched his US presidential campaign, promising to "run with heart" and "take nothing and no one for granted".

Image

Mr Bush, the son and brother of two former presidents, spoke in his hometown of Miami, Florida. Recently released campaign branding leaves behind his surname, which some see as a political liability. Polling suggests he has yet to dominate a wide field of Republican candidates.

Speaking in both English and Spanish, Mr Bush used his speech to appeal to a broad swath of the US electorate - of which minorities have become increasingly more important - not just the Republican's conservative base. Much of Mr Bush's remarks were dedicated to his record as the former governor of Florida, during which time the state enjoyed economic growth.

However, his speech was interrupted by at least one heckler, forcing Mr Bush to improvise a response that included a denunciation of President Barack Obama's immigration reforms. In a video released ahead of the speech and played at the event before he spoke, Mr Bush pledged to protect the most vulnerable and remove barriers to social mobility. In the video, titled The Greatest Century, he said: "I see a great country on the verge of its greatest century, and I'm ready to lead."
“If you trust in yourself, and believe in your dreams, and follow your star. . . you'll still get beaten by people who spent their time working hard and learning things and weren't so lazy.”

IN JEB'S DEFENSE

Post by RayThom »

He does appear to be the least mediocre out of the dirty dozen now officially running. I'll stick my neck out and predict it's going to be a long, long, long, campaign slog to the White House.

God bless America!

ETA: props for the fluent Spanish, though. That's pretty cool.

I thought it was a pretty good launch...

The big advantage Bush is going to have this year is that the money he will have will enable him to run everywhere, and as front loaded as the delegate selection process is this time around, that will really matter. Most of the other candidates are going to have to pick their spots.

Last time you had Iowa, then New Hampshire, Nevada, South Carolina and then Florida. This time it goes like this for February and March:

February

Monday, February 1: Iowa caucuses
Tuesday, February 9: New Hampshire
Saturday, February 20: South Carolina
Tuesday February 23: Nevada caucuses

March

Tuesday, March 1: Colorado caucuses;[citation needed] Massachusetts; Oklahoma; Tennessee; Texas; Vermont; Virginia; North Carolina
Saturday, March 5: Louisiana
Tuesday, March 8: Alabama; Hawaii caucuses; Mississippi; Michigan
Sunday, March 13: Puerto Rico
Tuesday, March 15: Illinois; Missouri; Florida; Ohio[43]
Tuesday, March 22: Arizona; Utah caucuses [44]

17 states will have selected their delegates by the time we get to the Florida primary. (And three other substantial states will be voting that day.)

I also think this thing about his last name is overblown. Most of the people who say they won't vote for him because of his last name probably wouldn't vote for any Republican anyway. Name a different Republican, and they'd have a different excuse.

I don't see conservative pundits saying that his last name is going to be a "problem" for him. All the ones I see are liberals who wouldn't vote for any Republican, even at bayonet point. They say it's a problem for him, because they want it to be a problem for him, and they're just looking for ways to knock down the prospects for GOP candidates.

But his "down home" manner of speaking really resonates with the people.
Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.

Also, he's a little too cozy with a rather shady banker, and there are issues in his family that could be an embarrassment to the campaign.

Come and listen to my story
‘Bout a man named Jeb!
You can see him on teevee,
You can see him on the web.
And then one day he was scroungin’ for some votes,
And down from the top came a passel of notes.

C-notes, that is...Koch brothers...Adelson...
The top 1% of the top 1%!

Well the next thing ya know
Ol’ Jeb!’s a candidate
Wingnuts said “Well, at least you’re white and straight.
But further to the right is the place you oughta be.”
So he packed the family baggage
And he started baggin’ tea.

Right to life...right to work...right to open-carry...right to shoot nig-
(WHOA! That’s a little TOO FAR right!)

Well now it’s time to say goodbye
To Jeb! and all his kin.
He is not “the smart one”
And he’s never gonna win.
Let’s watch the self-destruction of the wacko GOP
And reincarnation of the Clinton prez’dency.

Hillary, that is...sit down, Bill...put your pants on!
Y’all come again...er, no, Bill! Not you!

If you wake up and don't want to smile
If it take just a little while
Open your eyes and look at the day
You'll see things in a different way

Don't stop thinking about the bighouse
Don't stop, you'll soon be there
your bed ll be on the floor
commisary gone, commisary gone

Why not think about times to come
And not about the things that you've done
If your guard was bad to you
Just think what would willie do

Don't stop thinking about the bighouse
Don't stop, you'll soon be there
your bed ll be on the floor
commisary gone, commissary gone

All I want is to see your trial
If it takes just a little while
I know you don't believe that it's true
that the law don t apply to you

Don't stop thinking about tomorrow
Don't stop, it'll soon be here
It'll be, better than before,
Yesterday's gone, yesterday's gone

orange is the new black
