I'm no fan of Cruz (I don't believe he has a principled bone in his body) but this Trumped up (pun intended) "issue" about whether or he's a "natural born" citizen has seemed completely bogus to me... (like most of the shit the loud-mouthed bloviator spews)
However the story has gotten a little life due to the fact that some high profile respectable people are calling it an open question...
Cruz made an effort to deliberately alienate his Senate colleagues, (one Republican Senator was quoted as saying that Cruz was less popular in the GOP Senate Caucus then Harry Reid...that's pretty bad...) and now when he could use a little support he's discovering that he has no friends:
http://www.cbsnews.com/news/john-mccain ... king-into/John McCain: Ted Cruz's citizenship is "worth looking into"
PHOENIX -- Sen. John McCain, R-Arizona, who faced questions as the 2008 GOP presidential nominee about his birth abroad, is now posing the same question to Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas.
In an interview Wednesday on Phoenix radio station 550 KFYI's Chris Merill Show, McCain said he "doesn't know" whether Cruz's birth in Canada makes him eligible to be president. Cruz, whose father was born in Cuba, asserts that he is a U.S. citizen because his mother was an American.
"I know that came up in my race because I was born in Panama, but I was born in the Canal Zone which is a territory. Barry Goldwater was born in Arizona when it was territory when he ran in 1964," McCain said.
McCain added that he was born on a U.S. military base, which he said is not the same as being born in Canada.
"That's different from being born on foreign soil. I think there is a question. I'm not a constitutional scholar on that, but I think it's worth looking into. I don't think it's illegitimate to look into it."
http://thehill.com/homenews/sunday-talk ... ligibilityMcConnell: Senate won’t intervene in Cruz 2016 eligibility
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) says the upper chamber won’t issue a resolution on whether Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) is constitutionally eligible to run for president.
“I just don’t think the Senate ought to get into the middle of this,” McConnell said Sunday on ABC’s “This Week.” “These guys will all slug it out in Iowa and New Hampshire. We’ll have a nominee hopefully by sometime in the spring.”
The eligibility of Cruz, who was born in Canada to an American mother and Cuban father, to serve as president has been called into question by Republican primary front-runner Donald Trump, with other prominent Republicans calling the concerns legitimate.
Article II, Section 1 of the Constitution states: “No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President.”
Cruz, a constitutional lawyer, has maintained that he is eligible to be president, pointing out the distinction between natural-born and naturalized citizens.
The Senate previously issued a resolution confirming then-nominee John McCain’s eligibility to serve as president. The Arizona senator was born on a military base in Panama to American parents.[That vote was unanimous; Cruz would be lucky to get a majority]
When you kick people in the teeth you really can't expect a helping hand...
