Ted Does Marco A Solid...

Post by Lord Jim »

Cruz campaign opens 10 Florida offices

Ted Cruz's campaign announced Friday that it opened 10 campaign offices across Florida this week, in the run-up to the state's March 15 primary.

The offices are located throughout the state, from Pensacola to Miami, in the Texas senator's latest effort to gain momentum in a state where Florida Sen. Marco Rubio has kept expectations high despite having only won one state to date and trailing in the overall delegate count.

Cruz has lagged far behind in state polling, trailing Donald Trump and Rubio by double digits, according to the most recent RealClearPolitics average. According to that average, Trump has 45 percent, Rubio is at 26 percent and Cruz is at 12 percent.

Rubio picked up the endorsement of the Orlando Sentinel on Friday, which described him as "the GOP's last, best hope."

It shows the weird dynamics of where we are in this race, that this gives a boost to Rubio...

Cruz is way too far behind to win the state, and any additional votes he gets are overwhelmingly likely to come at the expense of Trump, not Rubio...

This is a fact which Cruz surely knows. Wouldn't it be best for him for Rubio to be lose and be knocked out of the race? Why lay out a bunch of cash and make a campaign push that is likely to help him stay in?

Because while ideally Cruz of course wants Rubio out of the race, he doesn't want it to happen now at the expense of Florida's 99 delegates going to Trump....

I haven't checked recently, but I'll bet that neither Cruz nor Rubio is putting on much of a push in Ohio; since for the time being, it's in both of their best interest for Kasich to have a clear shot at beating Trump there....

(speaking of Kasich, recent polling indicates he's also got some good momentum in Michigan...probably not enough to pass Trump but a good second place showing is possible...Michigan is not winner-take-all)

Polling numbers that show Trump with a big lead over Rubio in Florida have to be taken with a huge grain of salt, since not one of them has been conducted since the Feb. 26th debate:
