Tualatin couple harassed over 'TRUMP' vanity plates

The Portland area is not a safe space for people with license plates that say "TRUMP," a Tualatin man told KATU on Tuesday.

Brian Trump told that station that since the beginning of the 2016 presidential election, he's received "vulgar language, mean looks, flipping you off, that kind of thing," while driving his car with vanity plates that bear his last name.

"I thought it would be cool to have my name on there, proud of the name," he said. So he got the plates nine years ago. After he got married, his wife got her own version of the plates: "KTRUMP."

Trump told KATU that three men intimidated his wife because of those plates. "It's kind of scary," he said.

Still, Trump said, "I'm sticking with it. I'm not going to let someone bully me out of my plate."

Instead, he's creating a vinyl sticker for his back windshield that says, "It's my last name and I've got better hair."

He hopes that clears up the confusion.

Collateral Damage

Ol' Brian is clearly having a mess o' trouble. Not only Drumpf is causing him problems but he's probably torn between Volkswagen buying back his vehicles on the cheap or having them repaired, possibly causing some performance issues.

If I lived in Russia I would change the plate, but since I don’t and this country supposedly supports freedom, at least for some people; I would get a conceal carry license and be prepared to defend myself.
Soon, I’ll post my farewell message. The end is starting to get close. There are many misconceptions about me, and before I go, to live with my ancestors on the steppes, I want to set the record straight.

But not the courage to actually go up to and ask the guy why he has TRUMP on his license plate. :shrug

On the other hand you might need a gun to defend yourself from dirty looks
Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.

Just like the road ragers--tough behind the wheel, but outside or stopped, not so much. I agree with Ray--I'd keep it on my car (although I probably would have changed my name after Donald rose to prominence (long before he ran for anything) to avoid any connection with him), but I do like his sticker idea. In the meantime, I hope he returns the dirty looks and flipping off in kind.

Not worth it. Let them be the miserable ones. If someones choice of vanity plates or bumper sticker makes another person pissed off, then the one pissed off needs to do some soul searching.
I don't let those kinds of things rent space in my head. And I don't like being a landlord.

Returning the flipping clears my head, but to each his/her own.

WTF is wrong with you? Why is carrying a gun (so you can shoot people!) your go-to solution for a minor social difficulty?

He could just put a Hillary bumper sticker on his car. At least people would laugh.

As long as it is only mean looks and insults I don‘t care. I reserve my right to do violence for those that feel they have the right to do harm. Self defense is the only thing that justifies the use force.

I don’t do that stuff either it is stupid and immature. It can always escalate; hurling insults at each other while driving down the highway at a high rate of speed is dangerous not only to you and the fool, but anyone else that happens to be on the road.

Let's just let that lie there and speak for itself, shall we?

I don't believe in gesture swapping. One of my best non-verbal assets is my facial expression ability. If possible, I try to pull up close to the "gesticulater" and give them my best "you're a fucking asshole" face which includes a shake of my head... and a laughing smile. Not surprising, many of these same drivers almost always look straight forward trying to pretend they are now invisible.

I rarely get mad, never get even, and accept all of this behavior as part of the human condition. I am, however, always up for a good face-to-face non-violent, verbal argument. Now that's great therapy and actually accomplishes the best outcome -- understanding.

What oldr said.
Read something, come to a conclusion based on your own assumptions and opinions, and then go off half-cocked.
Yeah, liberty, you're one of the Trumpanzees all right.

Incidentally, I saw a car the other day with a plate on it that said "MAGA".  Now, should I assume that this means "Make America Great Again" and start hatin' on this guy and cut him off in traffic because he's a Trump supporter, or should I suspect instead that it means something entirely different ... perhaps his last name is "Magarackowicz" or something like that, and this is a nickname he's always used?

Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?

MAGA -- Mexican American Grocers Association. I bet most of them are anti-Trump.
