Bannon interview.

Post by ex-khobar Andy »

Can't get onto the American Prospect site (servers overloaded) but there is a cached version here.

It's a doozy. Think Scaramucci with a brain cell or two.

They're talking about it on MSNBC right now, apparently he is now claiming he didn't know he was being quoted - thought it was off the record.

I take back what I wrote about the brain cell. Apparently he phoned the journalist and made no mention of off the record. Now where did I hear that before?

When talking with a reporter nothing is ever "off the record." Bannon is no fool, he knows this well.

I beg to differ, protecting sources and adhering to on/off record ethics is how good reporters break stories. My experience with press has been limited, but I've always had my conversations honored in that regard.

I'll stand by what I said above.

The link supports BSG. Honorable journalists will stick to an off the record agreement although it cannot be legally binding. But yes, like any conversation, you should know who you are talking to and what level of trust you have in that person. Steve Bannon trusted this journalist because they share some opinions on China trade. I trust that journalist when he says that Bannon did not request that it be off the record.

No Bannon just wants to deflect enough so those that are so used to swallowing bullshit will jump at the bait?

(How's that for s mixed metaphor?)
Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.

Interesting. His imagery is all about conflict and attempts to dominate. But his simple-minded notion that by igniting a trade war with China wee will somehow prosper as a result is just dumb. Trade between us is, for the most part, mutually beneficial, and further, the more we are interdependent the more chains the Chinese put on themselves. Some people were paranoid that the Chinese would threaten to, or actually go ahead and, collapse the market for US debt by selling off their holdings. The only thing that would do is cost them hundreds of billions as they sold at a loss and we could buy back our own debt for a fraction of its face value; big win for us.

He is trying to force a crude model of trade as 'economic warfare' onto a world where relative advantage and disadvantage are often hard to determine and where possessing and wielding power is a more subtle concept than just waving guns..

If he really wanted to help us he would persuade the government to buy 140 Gigawatts of photovoltaic panels made here like the Chinese government is doing,
