Joe Scarborough: ‘Vladimir Putin has something on Donald Trump’



Joe Scarborough closed out the week with a reminder that for all the little scandals surrounding President Donald Trump, Americans shouldn’t lose sight of what he considers the big one — Trump and Russia.

“Vladimir Putin has something on Donald Trump,” said Scarborough on Friday’s “Morning Joe.” “Let me say it again, because there’s been a lot of noise from Donald Trump over the past year since he’s been president. Vladimir Putin has something that he is holding over Donald Trump’s head.”

The MSNBC host did not speculate as to what that might be, but he might well have been referring to a number of salacious claims made in the infamous Trump dossier, first published by BuzzFeed roughly one year ago.

Scarborough said the most recent Trump scandal, that his lawyer paid an adult film star $130,000 to stay quiet during his presidential run about an affair years earlier, was part of a broader panoply of insanity meant to “numb” Americans to the Trump-Putin story — whatever it turns out to be.

“He’s hoping when the truth comes out about what Vladimir Putin has and has had hanging over his head for decades, possibly, that we will all be too numb to notice,” said Scarborough.

“Ten tweets a day, five lies a day, bread and circuses, all of these game show, reality show distractions,” he added. “That’s all he’s hoping. He wants to numb the American people. He wants to numb the electorate. He wants to numb everybody.”

Whatever he has, I think it is extremely important for the media to keep pointing out the lies and obstruction acts of Trump because of it; it was the lies and obstruction that sunk Nixon, and the same that made the Clinton impeachment at least have some semblance of legitimacy, and if Trump is sunk, it will be because of the same. I really don't care if he likes golden showers (hell, how do you think his hair gets that color?) or even coprophilia (and face it, someone who speaks out of his ass as much as Trump does has to be into it); now if Putin killed a hooker for him like in Godfather 2, that could be different...

We were recently served up Lord Dampnut's sexcapades with porn star Stormy Daniels, while Malania was pregnant with Baron, and hardly anyone flinched. Who the hell is going to give a shit when Putin releases the "Pee-Pee" tape?

Drumpf is almost bulletproof. Hopefully, we can get enough Dems elected in 2018, and maybe they will grow the balls necessary to change the White House dynamic.

Yes, but the offense is not the golden showers tape, the offense is what he did, including outright lies and obstruction of justice, to keep it secret.

Ray, do you really care who he cavorted with (absent some sort of drugging or sex with a minor or sex with a subordinate in the executive branch circumstances)? It doesn't bother me in the least; indeed, I think far less of a porn star who would lower her standards enough to do anything sexual with him than I do for him being the ass we all know he is.

I *think* that indisputable video tape of Trump getting a golden shower *might* be a bridge too far for even the most scurrilous Republicans who are currently Iicking Trump's lifted loafers.

My theory is that Vlad has something far worse on Donald; incontrovertible evidence of major financial crimes, and/or incontrovertible evidence of abortions for which he’s paid. The latter might be forgivable to evangelicals if he claims it happened before his Christian rebirth - I’ve known several fundamentalist anti-choicers who conveniently got the abortions they needed before becoming rabidly anti-choice.

I also believe that the real dirt here involves money; money owed by Trump to the Russians, Oligarch money invested in Trump businesses and properties, and Russian money laundered...

This fear of what Mueller will uncover also goes a long way towards explaining Trump's obsession with constantly stroking his base, even when he would seem to be better served politically overall by not doing so...

Building the kind of majority political support needed to accomplish large objectives is not a priority for Trump...

His focus is on hanging on to enough support from the electorate to stave off impeachment when the full force of the Russiagate shit storm hits the fan...

In fact, I have felt that for the purpose of nailing Trump, it has been unfortunate that this salacious, lurid stuff was in the dossier at all...

What a lot of the public doesn't understand is that the Steele Dossier consists of a collection of independently sourced reports, (a number of very damning ones that have been verified as true) The sources for the golden shower tape allegations are not the same as the ones for the other reports in the Dossier, but its presence gives Trump and his minions the opportunity to use it to try to discredit everything in the dossier...

Plus the sensationalist nature of the charges frequently sucks up the media oxygen whenever the dossier is discussed, and as a result the more substantive and substantiated charges in the documents don't get the coverage and exposure they deserve.

I've been listening to and reading a lot of stuff about Vladimir Putin - one of the best pieces was Preet Bharara's conversation with Bill Browder on his podcast a couple months back. I think it's essential listening for anyone wanting to be fully informed about the evils that Russia still poses to us and the rest of the world.

Vladimir Putin is the richest man on the planet - estimated to be worth 200 BILLION, with much of it hiding in the accounts and properties of the oligarchs under his thumb and terrified of his wrath.

Donald Trump is one of those oligarchs. I would not be surprised if one of the things that Vlad has over Donald is the threat to have him or his family members killed. Vlad doesn't hesitate to brutally murder people who raise his blood pressure.

I am beyond sickened that we are living in a time when the President of the United States of America is in bed with a despot like Putin - and that we are becoming the disUnited States because of it. Russia can destroy us still, not with nuclear weapons, but from the inside out.

Me too; and I really don't give a shit if that's what turns him on. Same with his fling with Ms Daniels - if he wants to spend $130,000 for a fuck that's his affair and I presume that she is satisfied with the transaction. Melania may not be, but I assume that she can extricate herself if she wants to. It's a little like some of the issues around Palin when she first appeared on the scene - I did not need to think that she was ignorant of basic kindergarten geography (Africa is not a country) to know that she was just plain unsuitable for the job.

But I cannot understand that he still has the support of those who regard themselves as evangelical Christians who seem to regard baking a cake for a couple of gay guys in love as somehow more evil than cavorting with a porn star.

I'd love to know how the LLC they set up for the purpose accounted for the payment to Ms Daniels. If it was a business expense I would think that there could be fraud charges at the least. I have just this second seen a report on CNN that she has a 'Making America Horny Again' tour, starting in N Carolina tonight.

Evangelicals will support Trump no matter what he does. The only way they would drop their support for Trump and the Republican Party is if the Republicans changed their platform to support Abortion rights and demanded stricter separation of Church and State. They'll never support the Democrats as long as the Democrats are Pro-Choice and Secular. The Evangelical Preachers get their masses revved up for Republican candidates by selective endorsement.

Plus, anything "bad" about their chosen figureheads they choose not to believe, even if they actually know it to be true.

I have to hand it to Trump- he formed a Personality Cult that rivals the Kim Jungs in a very short time. His supporters are still gushing over what a great job he's doing, bringing America back to its founding principles. It makes me want to vomit.
