Don't Quit Your Day Job...

Post by Lord Jim »

On second thought, do quit your day job, and get another one that involves asking, "Would you like fries with that?":
White House aide joked of 'dying' McCain

Washington (CNN)White House aide Kelly Sadler responded to Sen. John McCain's opposition to President Donald Trump's pick for CIA director by saying Thursday morning that "he's dying anyway," a White House official told CNN.

The official said Sadler, who is in charge of surrogate communications, [this is the person who's supposed to be in charge of messaging for other people speaking on Trump's behalf...it explains so much...] meant it as a joke, "but it fell flat." [A "joke" about a war hero dying of brain cancer fell flat? Who could have seen that coming?]

McCain announced last year that he had been diagnosed with brain cancer, and he issued a statement Wednesday calling on his fellow senators to oppose Gina Haspel, Trump's nominee for CIA director, whose ties to the use of interrogation methods widely considered torture have drawn significant criticism.

Asked about Sadler's comment, a White House official said, "We respect Senator McCain's service to our nation, and he and his family are in our prayers during this difficult time."[ But no condemnation or even criticism of the "joke"]

Sadler called the senator's daughter Meghan McCain on Thursday to apologize for the remark, a source close to the situation told CNN, although it's unclear what her response was.

Of course it's the callous, thoughtless, vicious tone set by the POS-In-Chief himself that creates an environment where a staffer might think this sort of vile remark would be accepted as "humor"....

It's completely impossible to imagine a staff member thinking this could pass for a joke at a staff meeting in the White House of either Obama or Bush 43...

Or most other administrations for that matter...

This too:

Trump and his supporters just can't stand dissent; apparently it even bothered the commentator at Fox.

rube, you and Joe Biden are on the same wavelength:
Joe Biden says Trump admin. 'hit rock bottom' after White House aide mocks John McCain

Your collective inability to acknowledge this obvious truth makes you all look like fools.

Not watching the news anymore, no. I subsist on the NPR notifications that flash on my phone now and then. I just can’t stomach the exhaustive coverage of this train wreck.

Mocking ones enemies is an old liberal tradition? I know it goes back to at least Nixon. And I believe some did it when Reagan was dying.

Wasn’t McCain a war criminal who signed a confession while in Vietnam admitting to his war crimes?
Soon, I’ll post my farewell message. The end is starting to get close. There are many misconceptions about me, and before I go, to live with my ancestors on the steppes, I want to set the record straight.

Whoever these "liberals" were (in either case), they clearly didn't speak for the president and weren't part of the administration--and I think an administration should be held to a higher standard . And IMHO there is a big difference between mocking one's enemies (say Hitler) and someone with whom you just disagree politically on some issues (like McCain).

Is for McCain being a war criminal, as Jesus said to Pilate, that's what you say.

No, John McCain is a war hero, who, after years of being tortured, refused an early release (which the North Vietnamese offered because of his father's high position...He was commander of the Pacific Fleet at the time, and Hanoi thought that releasing McCain would garner positive publicity for them) because he insisted on following the military code that said that POWs were to be released in the order in which they were captured.

Do you think that's something you could have done? I doubt that I could have. It was this act of extraordinary courage and character that most makes John McCain a war hero; not (as President Bone Spurs has sneered) the mere fact of his being captured.

He did at one point make a bogus confession, but there was no violation of the code of conduct involved in that whatsoever:
Article 5 of the U.S. Military Code of Conduct states: “When questioned, should I become a prisoner of war, I am required to give name, rank, service number and date of birth. I will evade answering further questions to the utmost of my ability.”
https://taskandpurpose.com/heres-milita ... d-taliban/

In other words, US soldiers are not required to resist torture unto death without complying with what the enemy wants them to say; only to hold out as long as they can. (Which McCain certainly did.)

If you think Senator McCain is a war criminal because of his actions while a prisoner of war--go look up and read a book called "Every War But One"about US military prisoners during the Korean War. As a result of the events described in that book, the official policy cited above as the Code of Conduct was developed.

That Code did make a difference. The prisoners in the Hanoi Hilton were treated far more brutally that those in North Korea yet behaved in an entirely different fashion. Prisoner McCain's actions were completely honorable, as US Navy Officer, an American citizen, a human being.

Indeed.

here you have a guy who has had permanent injuries based on the torture he suffered and cannot even fully raise his arms. This man knows what he's talking about when it comes to torture, and I give his opinion a lot more credence than I do that of arm chair quarterbacks and loudmouths like those in the administration and its supporters.

ETA: And, FWIW, I didn't vote for McCain, and mostly do not agree with his politics; but I would never use that as an excuse criticize his service or his behavior during Vietnam. If someone who was there with him and suffered the same treatment speaks up, I will listen, but I couldn't care less what those in the administration say to smear him--especially someone who used his bone spurs to stay safely home (FWIW, I don't criticize him for staying home (I didn't go either), only for having the gall to smear someone who did not).

Now now that was directed towards liberals, a little flash back to the Cold war and Vietnam. If you will remember Jane Fonda said the returning POW's were liars and war criminals they had not been tortured.

What saved McCain after Keatong is that he admitted his error. I can see how that would be beyond your comprehension
