It is, and always has been, about a football post being misplaced in the politics category.

Funny, then, how so many politicians felt the need to jump in and demonize the players in order to gin up their base.

Who politicized football first?

Maybe the Defense Department when it paid multi millions of tax dollars to the NFL to turn playing the anthem at the start of games into a military recruiting tool of orgiastic patriotic fanaticism?

In the old days there was no big deal about the anthem and flag - the players usually weren’t even out on the field.

Basically the anti-social justice protest crowd is saying that players are allowed to be sold by their masters to the slave labor of recruiting cannon fodder for the military, but can’t send a message to the same black and brown and white kids who watch the NFL and are joining the military that other things are worth fighting for too - like the freedom to navigate ones own neighborhood without living in fear of police violence.
For me, it is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring.

I don't know what others think but I think football should have more Asian, white, female, LGBT, and disabled players.

I don’t want to see the NFL be so ageist. I demand to toddlers on the field.

I agree. Toddlers seem to do just fine in that other football game....

Not just players!! All the staff of the teams and stadiums, anyone reporting on sport, the ticket sellers, the fans as well, should be chosen to reflect a rich, equal, diverse mix.

And what about trans players?!?!?! You bastard, you're obviously anti-trans!!

I think all professional sports should take at least one year off.  No practices, no scrimmages, no workouts, no exhibition games, no seasons, no nothing.  Two would be better.  Let these football players and basketball players and golfers and race car drivers and professional fighters and cyclists and soccer players and tennis players and anyone else try to support themselves, their lifestyles, and their drug habits on their regular job skills and those college degrees they 'earned' like 99.9% of the rest of the world has to do.

Maybe do the same thing for professional entertainers like movie stars, singers, and (c)rap artists.

Then, when these men (and women) are allowed to perform their craft again, perhaps they will come to appreciate the fact that they are being given a king's ransom for playing what are in effect kids' games — and the sport and not the athletes and their 'statements' will once again become the focus of sports.

Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?
