race invaders
Re: race invaders
Actually, some physical conditions do as well. I've known a number of people with high blood pressure who go off their meds when the readings look OK; ditto with diabetes. Many times it's because they meds do have some undesirable side effects, but also because people who start to feel a little better convince themselves they're not sick.
People also do ignore the warning signs; I've known people with torn ligaments who insist on running anyway, people with back pain who push themselves way before they should after surgery, and a lot of people who refuse physicals therapy because they don't need it. Their mantra appears to be "it's not that bad"; people can convince themselves of anything if they really want to.

Re: race invaders
I have been cutting back on my anti-anxiety/depression meds (under docs supervision) not because I think I am "all better" but because I have developed/learned coping skills. I would like to be off the meds, but if the anxiety/depression returns and I am unable to cope with it using the methods I have learned, I will go back on them in a heartbeat.
So far i have not had any episodes with the lower doses. I'll stay at this level for about 6-9 months then consider lowering again.
Again, it's all being done with a medical doctor and a shrinks oversight.

The "suck it up" attitude is alive and well. And lets not forget "no pain, no gain" and "don't be a girly man" attitudes either.People also do ignore the warning signs;
Re: race invaders
I have suffered from PTSD and major depression, recurrent, since I was a teenager. I've lived through several episodes of major clinical depression with suicidal ideation - only the first one was not due to a failure to maintain meds. Sometimes not taking meds was because of lack of insurance, but most times it was because my brain tricked itself into believing it was well and no longer needed the meds or to tolerate the side effects of them. My brain was always wrong, as for most folks with true clinical depression, once brain chemistry has changed it doesn't ever change back - or get 'cured'.
In the 20 years I've worked with victims, clients & defendants with mental health issues, failure or struggle to maintain meds was a primary obstacle for 90% of them, especially those on more rigorous medication regimens with strongest side effects - bipolar and schizophrenic patients seem to hate their meds the most.

Re: race invaders
wes - on your keyboard with the malfunctioning 'o' key do you have a number pad? If yes, when you want a lower case letter 'o' hold down the alt key and use the numberpad to type 111 . (Just 111, not the period.) For an upper case 'O' use Alt 079 - again using the numberpad.

You guys are just feeding the troll, you know. He can certainly afford a $15 replacement keyboard, but the truth is his keyboard isn’t broken. He’s just the biggest attention whore Plan B has ever hosted.

geez, I had forgotten what was in this thread
sorry I brought it up
perhaps later I could offer my own meager thoughts on mental illness, I would only do that with friends tho, now.
you guys really aren t friends anymore, you know?
I did think of many of you that way..., once
I will comment on RR s line of thought about pain contributing
it really can, years of horrible pain , and any suffering, I d guess, can make you bitter and mean without you even realizing hat you had changed
you see, you have to fight the pain to keep functioning at a hig level, or so I thought
once I stopped working …, steel fab. , where you can t be soft, and once I had lost all respect for myself and thought of myself as a useless leech on society..., once I had hit bottom..., and had found hope and wisdom and purpose again...., once I had been saved from myself...., I was able to see the pain differently..., not as a hated enemy, to be battled everyday..., but as a constant companion who must be respected. a grudgingly accepted partner in a long journey....
I miss rubato....

The gut biome does a body good or bad. Look it up. Lots of studies on PubMed.
Correlations between mental, autoimmune, etc. issues and gut bacteria.
Akkermansi mucinphilia is your friend among many others.
No Akkermansia mucinphilia? Sucks to be you. FWIW since it's anerobic, it's not in probiotics.
