Bye, Don

Post by Methuselah »

One of my great disappointments in 2016 was that I thought I would never have to read or watch anything more about Trump after Hilary beat him, as the polls predicted. Not only did he win, but he continued to dominate the news on topics mostly of interest to him alone, for four years. My next New Year’s resolution is to never open any newspaper or website article that mentions him. I hope that papers I read do not carry any articles about him at all, or only if he does something particularly dangerous, on inside pages only, and that media sites cut down coverage of him. Bye, Don.

I share your sentiments entirely!

I have a distinct memory of being in a lovely little rental cottage on Cape Cod that late July or early August night when the first debate took place; I normally would not turn the TV on at all on my vacation, but I just wanted a peek (politics junkie) and it turned into an experience of horror at his performance that set the stage for 5 years of increasing anguish at the near constant broadcasting of his chaos and hate across the spectrum of media by the hour 24/7/365.

He sucked all the oxygen from the room and they let him; they enabled him 1000% and the media and the megalomaniac became a positive feedback loop of epic proportions.

And for anybody anywhere who has ever had a relationship with a narcissist or domestic abuser - as parent, sibling, lover, child, friend - it was coverage of behavior that was triggering (for lack of a better term) a good deal of the time. It is fucking awful living in the massive shadow of a toxic bully 24/7/365 so I was not at all surprised to see the dancing in the streets and the very emotional responses to his defeat (Van Jones on CNN captured the massive exhale beautifully).

I really don’t know if the media is going to be capable of turning the page going forward - he gets ratings after all, ALL the cable channels have enjoyed a significant increase in viewership under the megalomaniac’s regime. They don’t care as much for the mental health of the country as they do for their profit margins.

I am planning to shut off all the channels if he doesn’t go away.
For me, it is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring.

Hi Methuselah, glad to see you finally got through and can post now.

I've had more than enough of Trump but it's hard to avoid the bum. I like to listen to talk radio and watch the news but there's no way to do that without hearing about him. I didn't like the guy when I first heard of him decades ago and didn't watch his TV show because of that. I did check out his show once years ago but changed the channel quickly because I thought it was boring and silly.

Looking forward, after Trump stops dominating the media, I expect to see a lot of criticism of Biden and jokes from comedians. The best thing Biden can do is to avoid the media unless it is absolutely necessary and related to the job. He's known for his gaffes and you know he will be watched closely.

In the meantime, truck fump!
