I was just about to start a thread called "It's morning again in America".

I can only imagine how incredibly bitter Mitch McConnell must be this morning, knowing that this outcome is a direct result of Trump and his minions suppressing the Republican vote by undermining faith in the electoral process, and whether that will be enough to cause McConnell to stop carrying water for Trump and Trumpism.

I think he might, but some will never learn. When you think that , Trump holds the primary responsibility for flipping the House, and now the Senate (by unseating two republican incumbents in a southern state no less), you'd think they should, but some will not (maybe because they are afraid to admit they were wrong). I don't know what the future holds, but yesterday's election, for the first time in a while, gave me some more confidence that democracy can work.

Mitch McConnell has never had a fuck to give about Trump or Trumpism, except to the extent Trump is a tool for implementing his own agenda (radical right extremist judiciary, slash taxes/loot the Treasury for the super rich and large corporations) while providing a clown show/dumpster fire/train wreck to distract people from what he's doing in the shadows.

Trump is now only as relevant as the craven bootlickers in the GOP allow him to be. Can't wait to see how Loserpalooza in D.C. today turns out.

Yep, that and courting the MAGA crowd; after yesterday, maybe he will see that there are other things to be more concerned about. But he will have to somehow distance himself from the general perception that he has been a lapdog to Trump, which will not be easily accomplished. I think there are many who share McConnell's politics and who tried to use Trump as a tool to get support from the MAGA crowd, who are now waking up to the fact that there is a distinct negative to being associated with Trump. Of course, when they have to run on their ideas rather than rhetoric, the electorate may not be so kind (at least that is what I hope).

The problem with courting the MAGA crowd is the same as the problem with courting the Teabaggers a decade ago, only now exponentially worse: they are political nihilists who will torpedo anyone who does not wholly embrace their alternative reality as being insufficiently loyal to Dear Leader. These are people who find it much more palatable to believe in a massive conspiracy of widespread corruption (featuring child sex trafficking and cannibalism) than to accept that they lost an election.

True, but the MAGA crowd is worse; at least the teabaggers had an agenda (however repulsive it was); the MAGA crowd just wants to stand and yell bullshit. Oh sure, there are some people in the group who do support some political views (usually one issue, like anti abortion or anti immigrants) but there is no real agenda embraced by all of them; which is what makes Trump (who also embraces no real agenda) the perfect poster boy. He'll do whatever is necessary to be in the spotlight, and kowtow to those who will keep him there, but he stands for nothing. And that's what's frustrating.

Of course, hopefully after they see where this path has led, the "big boys", the uber rich who support a business centered agenda and oppose paying any taxes will move on to others who they can snooker to support their self-serving agenda.

And hopefully Biden will use the chance he has to get some serious reform and socuAt least that is what I hope.ial programs enacted, and not squander the opportunity he has like many of his supposedly progressive predecessors did.

At least that is what I hope.

I'm not optimistic, but I am hopeful. Time will tell.

McConnell and Trump have this much in common: each is out for himself. Alone. As long as someone else'e interests align with his own, each is OK with an ally. But the instant those interests diverge, there is no loyalty and no common path. Entirely predictable. Every now and then they might do the right thing but for entirely the wrong reasons.

In his Monday night speech allegedly in support of the R candidates for GA Senator, Trump introduced Kelly Loeffler as 'Karen Loeffler.'

Much as I dislike the whole 'Karen' thing, it may be the most accurate statement Trump has made recently.

It says so in the Mail, so it must be right.

Trump simply doesn't know the names of anyone who is not important to him personally. It's part of his narcissistic personality disorder: these people simply do not exist. He has no concept of "others" except as they may be serving him right now.

FWIW, he doesn't really know the names of people important to him either; the man cannot concentrate well enough to even learn a name. I think it's more because he is stupid than because he is a narcissist, but either suffices.
