Just curious lib - do you not believe that your ancestors a while back (maybe 10000 generations or so) were black? Modern evaluation of paleontological hominid evidence suggests that we are all 'out of Africa.'

Assuming that the out of Africa theory is true it goes back further than that; I suspect at least 30 to 40 thousand years and then it's only half African negroid. The other half has to be Neanderthal the evidence is in our DNA. By the way, of all the DNA fragments that have been collected none contain any Neanderthal male sex chromosomes; that makes one wonder what happened to the Neanderthal males that should have impregnated the Neanderthal females. Do you have any guesses; how about murder and rape would that fit? Of course, I know that the concept of murder and rape did not exist in ancient times; if a man killed another man, it was just a killing, and a woman had nothing to say about who she had sexual relations with and in some cases maybe not even today.

History or archaeology? Admittedly, I went to college when the professional history program was dominated by old white europeans. But the definition I learned was that history starts with a written record. So history starts with those clay tablets found in old dumps in what we called the fertile crescent, basically modern Iraq. Which is now mostly desert because of the environmental destruction that long term irrigation produces.

Are you noting that in the vegetable fields of California and the old buffalo grounds of the then called great American desert? Bring in the steel plow to cut through the deep turf and that desert became some the best farm land in the world. I don't know what the future is now that so many of those farm fields in Nebraska (that is the place I know best) have 600 hp gas engines driving deep wells and irrigation systems

Define black history.

Black history is no different than any other history except It would be written by and or for and about black people. History is the recorded events of mankind or woman kind. Alexander the Great conquered most of the known world of his time and some of his contemporaries recorded it in writing, that doesn't mean that all the events described are true it just means they were written down. Without a written language you cannot have a history. Oral history is crap; oral history is just legends not history and the reliability of all legends decrease overtime.

The events of Alexander the Great can be either world history, Greek history, or white, because Greece are part of the world, and the Greeks have their own history, and the Greeks are white, oh well European. It all depends on how you want to look at it. But to call world history black history is a stretch beyond distortion; I don't think the Chinese would appreciate it very much.

Then your question is useless. Find the oldest history book written by a black person about black people and that would be how far back black history goes.

On the other hand, the history of mankind wasn't written by early hominids but the evolution of the honky is generally believed to have taken place after humans from Africa migrated to areas of the globe where there is less sunlight.

lib - I have some helpful books on DNA which I am willing to lend you. If your grandparents were human beings (h. sapiens) you share about 99% of your DNA with them as you do with me and many of those on this board. (I can't speak for Rubato.). If they were gorillas it's about 98%, Grizzlies, 85%. Camels maybe 57%. But if they were mushrooms or sea anemones, it's only 50%.

I have four grandparents with birth family names of Hughes, Jones, Kelly, Baldwin. My father bought a book that claimed to list the direct descendants ( including my mother) of one a single person who came to Philly from England in 1768 as an indentured servant. I and my children were listed in the book. At my children's level, there were more than a thousand. I am not impressed (as happened recently as I was channel surfing) when I see a smug 'tv host' informing a famous actress that she is a direct descendant of Charlemagne. I think there are probably more than a million people walking around today for whom that is true.

That's a lot of DNA, but most of it is repeats that is assuming that your people marry within the same racial economic ethnic group.

A person may indeed be a descendent of Charlemagne, but they would not have much of his DNA; our cells are not large enough to contain all the DNA that we have inherited since the very beginning of life. Some of it must have been discarded along the way and I suspect the same thing happens in shorter periods of time. That's why we Caucasian and Mongoloid people only have fragments of Neanderthal DNA.

Lib that's kind of my point. The portion of your DNA that says you were descended from Ashkenazi Jews or Maori or Celts or whatever human race, is tiny. Probably much less than 0.1%. 99% of your DNA tells us only that you are some sort of ape; 60% tells us that you are mammalian (live birth, young suckled, probably furry); and 50% tells us that you are - or are not - a fungus.
