Just over two weeks after being appointed interim U.S. attorney for New Jersey, John Giordano, a former partner at Archer & Greiner, has been replaced by one of President Donald Trump's longtime attorneys, Alina Habba, according to an announcement Monday morning.
In an announcement on Truth Social Monday, Trump announced that Habba would serve as the interim U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey—her home state. Meanwhile, Giordano, who was tapped for the role earlier this month, will be nominated as the next U.S. Ambassador to Namibia, according to Trump's post.
However, that may be news to the U.S. Attorney's Office. When asked for confirmation that Giordano had been replaced, a spokesperson for the Office of Public Affairs for the U.S. Attorney, told the Law Journal, “No, he has not been replaced.” A request for comment from the New Jersey U.S. Attorney’s Office went unreturned.
"Time to make New Jersey great again," Habba said in a post on Truth Social Monday. "Let's roll."
While it's unclear who will actually be leading the New Jersey office, Trump praised Habba, emphasizing her preparedness to take on the role. Giordano will be nominated as the next U.S. ambassador to Namibia. It was also immediately unknown whether Giordano has any connections to Namibia.
“Alina will lead with the same diligence and conviction that has defined her career, and she will fight tirelessly to secure a Legal System that is both 'Fair and Just' for the wonderful people of New Jersey,” Trump said in his social media post. “Additionally, John Giordano, who has done a terrific job as the interim U.S. Attorney in New Jersey, will now be nominated as the new Ambassador to Namibia!”
Habba, a native of Summit, New Jersey, was formerly the managing partner of Habba Madaio & Associates in Bedminster and most recently served as counselor to the president under the Trump administration. She is a graduate of Lehigh University and Widener University School of Law and built her career focusing on civil litigation, representing Trump in several high-profile cases. Habba began her legal career as an associate at Tompkins, McGuire, Wachenfeld & Barry and went on to serve as an equity and managing partner at Sandelands Eyet.
Giordano, originally from Burlington County, has an extensive background in public service. His career includes serving as counselor to the assistant attorney general for the Environment and Natural Resources Division at the Department of Justice, working as a federal prosecutor in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia and representing the United States at the United Nations, among other government roles.
Before joining the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Giordano spent six years at Archer & Greiner, specializing in environmental law, corporate compliance, governmental regulatory issues and white-collar defense, until December 2022. Giordano graduated from Villanova University in 1998 and earned his law degree from Villanova University School of Law in 2002.
