Or people who you believe you can trust to do the job; I have known and worked with a number of politicians through my career, and have found most (not all) of them to be self-absorbed jerks, but then I am not electing a friend, but someone to do a job. FWIW, I have also hired people I really didn't care for personally, usually not working directly with me all that much, often for more remote locations, and it has worked out as well.

The purpose of the Supremacy Clause is to prevent state and local governments from interfering with the federal government when it is carrying out its delegated constitutional duties, including immigration enforcement. But that is essentially what cities like Minneapolis are doing: they do everything they can to interfere with federal authorities. They allow mobs to harass federal agents.

It is the city’s duty to maintain order, even if that means calling out the National Guard. People throw objects at ICE agents, they attack them, and they even try to intimidate them with their cars. The city of Minneapolis and the state of Minnesota are not fulfilling their responsibility. Their duty is to maintain public order, and they are failing to do so.

Unlike many liberals, I am a true believer in federalism. It’s a powerful tool for preventing tyranny. And yes, a state does not have to cooperate with the federal government, but it does have a duty to maintain order. It doesn’t matter what causes the disorder, whether it’s ICE conducting raids or anything else; the state is required to maintain order. That means people are not allowed to harass federal agents in the performance of their duties.

In this case, Minneapolis simply has not been doing that. The state government is sovereign, it also has the responsibility to step in and restore order, even if that means using the National Guard.

Thank you Benito; but restoration of order does not have to extend to requiring people not to harass iCE; the state is the sovereign, as you point out, but they do not have to abet the federal agents just seeking to stir things up by their strong arm tactics trying to spur riots. If the agents were just seeking to make legitimate arrests supported by warrants and without dragging people through the windows of their cars and beating the shit out of them, you may have a point, but restoration of order requires the federal agents to act legally and responsibly. But if you love the over the top violence by untrained personnel, there's not much I can say. I support the courts and states seeking to reign in the activities of ICE, but I guess you do not.
