I suppose it is true to say that the world is a better place without Khamenei thus justifying his killing
Can't argue with the first part; I won't miss him. But, "justifying his killing"? I know recent US presidents have enjoyed flexing their muscle targetting people they didn't like for murder, but it is hardly justified.
That was the point I was making.
Apart from anything else, Ford's EO of 50 years ago is still in force. Ford was horrified of course by Kennedy's murder and some of the outlandish theories (CIA involvement etc) which were being promulgated, and by the accounts of CIA plots to kill Castro. (I seem to remember exploding cigars.). In February 1976 Ford ordered that "no employee of the United States Government shall engage in, or conspire to engage in, political assassination." Subsequent presidents (Carter and Reagan) removed the word 'political' but the substance remained in force and both Bushes and Clinton left it in place.
Presidential Executive Orders remain in place until specifically revoked unless there was a time limit imposed on the original EO.
They can say what they want, but I doubt ,anyone who didn't buy it, buys it now. But face it, in every war the name of god (by whatever name (s)he is known) is invoked by all sides, and the troops are told they are doing god's work. It's pretty much a requirement
But you just can't make these things up.

This smells like a smear job. I was in the military, and I find it hard to believe that their names wouldn’t be leaked. I don’t think commanders would do this. No general officer or field‑grade officer is going to put his career at risk with language like that. This doesn’t smell right.
Soon, I’ll post my farewell message. The end is starting to get close. There are many misconceptions about me, and before I go, to live with my ancestors on the steppes, I want to set the record straight.

You could be right Lib, but I have known some bery stupid colonels and generals, so any idiocy they might say doesn't surprise me. Add to that the likelihood that some of them are evanglicals who zealously believe the approach of Armageddon and the signs, etc. and would not be shy about proselytizing.
And, as I said above, we have always cloaked our combat with the mantle of doing god's work, from Washington's frequent invocations of the revolution was a righteous cause endorsed by God (or Providence), to Lincoln's frequent mention of the name of God in justifying his actions, to FDR's frequent prayers to invoke God for our cause... Someone making a more pointed invocation doesn't surprise me.
